Meet Fatou Bah of Stockholm/London

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fatou Bah

Hi Fatou, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Fatou Bah, born and raised in Sweden with both my parents from Gambia. Growing up, I loved anything that didn’t involve sitting still, haha. I was lucky to have the chance to try out different sports and creative things, which really shaped who I am today.

I remember being completely mesmerized by music videos and performances on TV. Back then, it didn’t even feel like something you could just do—it seemed like you had to be ‘chosen’ or incredibly lucky. I never imagined that one day I’d be working in a creative field myself.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the biggest challenges I faced was back home in Stockholm. I’d often be considered for roles but wouldn’t get them because of typecasting or not having the ‘right’ look. When you’re in that environment for a long time, it’s easy to start doubting your talent, even though that was never the issue. Moving to London, where the industry is much more diverse and multicultural, completely changed everything for me.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve spent the past seven years in London, where I’ve been fortunate to achieve incredible milestones in my career. I recently completed a global tour with Dua Lipa, performed with the sensational band JUNGLE, and contributed to major films such as Black Widow, Cinderella, Jingle Jangle, and the highly anticipated Wicked that just released this year. Me and my two lovely friends (Kamilla Halid & Miranda Chambers) also decided to invest in the community but also for our own creative souls to open a self-sufficient and affordable dance studio open for all, this has been an amazing and beautiful passion project, something I’ve always wanted to do and that now feels crazy to have it out there. When in London and you need a studio to session etc know that HØST STUDIOS is open for all!

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was always active and creative—I wanted to do everything! At one point, I was in choir, theatre, playing handball, competing in swimming (which I was terrible at, haha), playing the piano—you name it. I was so focused on everything besides school that I eventually had to take a step back and refocus on my studies.

Personality-wise, I’d say I’ve always been bubbly but also a quite shy. Growing up in spaces where I was often the only Black person in the room definitely made me more of an overthinker and, over time, even more reserved. But at my core, I’ve always loved sports and anything that required physical effort to improve.

I’ve always had a strong drive to push myself, especially growing up with only brothers. Being the youngest and the only girl in a conservative household, I was inspired to show that I could do anything they did, while also carving out my own path in my own way.
