Meet Fabio Napoleoni of Napoleoni Artworks & Publishing in Westminster and Irvine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fabio Napoleoni.

Fabio, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In 2004, my wife and I welcomed our second child into the world. Our little girl was born with a severe heart condition that caused her to face several heart operations starting at 5 months old. The months we spent with her in the hospital affected the art I was creating. I began to sell a new form of art based more on evoking an emotion on eBay. In 2008, I began to sell to brick and mortar galleries with many of them located in SoCal. Over the last 9 years, the art has grown and now it’s a full-time job running my company.

Has it been a smooth road?
A smooth road is not worth the travel. The art business unique and so is everyone who embraces it. The one hard lesson learned was dealing with a publisher who was far from honest and lacked integrity. After 6 years into a 9-year contract, I decided it was best to parted ways. The breakup did come with a heavy cost as I had to reimburse my former publisher for the 3 years I decided to vacate. If I had any advice to a new artist, stay true to yourself, do what you love and get a great lawyer to read your contact.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Napoleoni Artworks & Publishing story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m a self-published artist. My company prints, sells and packages everything under one roof. All originals created are scanned and proofed in-house. The things I’m most proud of is that I sign, number, title and embellish every piece of art myself and that in itself sets the art apart from others.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I’m not sure where the art business is going over the next 5 to 10 years, but I’m hoping at some point artist stop using Marylin Monroe’s face. I’m currently working with Evening Sky Media based out of LA with merchandising/publishing of limited edition books, bronze sculptures and collector plushes and hopes of an animated film based on my characters.
