Today we’d like to introduce you to Fabian Perez.
Hi Fabian, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Fabian Perez, I am a painter and a sculptor. I was inspired by art since a very young age. My mother encouraged me to do to art classes, but I was young and more interested in soccer, so I learned from the real experiences of life. The story of my paintings started in my childhood days when people visited my home in the city of Campana, Argentina. I was five or six years old, and my place filled with friends of my sisters or relatives, which I got to draw and portrayed on a table full of cigarettes on an ashtray. It was my favorite game.
In school, it was the same experience; I drew the portraits of our forefathers, soccer players, etc.
My artwork reflects the scenes and memories I experienced in the many countries I lived in. Each place that I have been has left an impression on me and has some influence in my creations. Even though my collections of Balconies and Tango dancers are a representation of Argentine culture, my studies of the Geishas, the Venetian collection, and the Flamenco dancers are inspired by the other cultures I faced in my life.
I always explain that for a long time, I did not want to define my way of painting so as to not limit myself, but a few years ago, I felt the need to create my own movement, which I called Neo-emotionalism. A movement where the importance of creating with emotion goes beyond the technique used. Neo-emotionalism will be recognized by the artists who, after creating their work, will simply feel liberated, and also by the viewer, when they feel the creation in their heart.
That Neo-Emotionalism style is what took me to where I am today.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road was not smooth, I lost both of my parents, my mother by the age of 15, and my father by the age of 16. I had to find a way to support myself in life, mentally and financially. It took many years for my wheels to travel on a sandy road. Along my way I have left behind many things, and so many others that I have lost. But the wheels keep turning, and I can see the road straight ahead of me, and I know that road will lead me to many new experiences.
My future in art is as complex as finalizing a painting. I see it and I realize it; it is not a process that takes hours, it is not by the meter or a race against time. Intuitively I feel it, it is a movement, an energy. I do not know what the result will be, but I will take it to the limit so that it becomes a masterpiece.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My paintings are best known for my characters of the night subjects, beautiful women, dancers of tango and flamenco, and the living legends portraits. The Living Legends collection involves some of the most famous faces of our time with great personalities around the world that I consider have left something important in human history. This includes legends ranging from rock stars to sporting heroes.
Some famous personalities a can name are Micky Rourke, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rafael Nadal, Diego Maradona (RIP), Tyson, Countess Spencer, Ringo Starr, and more.
Figures have always been my biggest challenge in painting, but also my favorite to render for that very reason: the challenge of creating and perfecting the human form.
Beauty in every sense of the word, it is my inspiration and by consequence, the common denominator between the subject or object that I create.
The importance of creating with emotion is above the technique, which is being considered and utilized, it is critical for me to become one with the subject. Engaging a piece of art in this category only will be as difficult as engaging it in any other classification. My intension is not to depend on a rigid idea, but rather explore within the fabric of flexible feelings.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Sculptures are very important addition to my artistic career. When I started to sculpt it was like a hobby, but over time I felt the same passion for sculpting as I do for painting. There are very different kinds of art expression, but the goal is the same. I seek for rhythm, texture, proportion, essence, and soul.
I have my own gallery in Melrose District in LA. We open by appointment only. At the moment, we are showing a variety of my best-selling images. I invite the readers to immerse in the journey and enjoy my collection.
