Meet Faber Dewar of Drink Up in Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Faber Dewar.

Faber, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was an on-camera carpenter on the tv show trading spaces on TLC…I realized how many plastic bottles of water we went through as a group and was horrified. On further research, I saw us, in the USA consumed 60 billion plastic bottles of water a year! I wanted to do something about this.

I spent 2 years with an engineering team creating an incredible machine that plugs into the hot mainline water at any location and ultra purifies it, vitalizes it then chills it before serving. The machine also has a 22-inch LCD touchscreen where you can create a profile and from then on make payments using our biometric finger reader. We are the first vending machine to do this…. The user can also add any number of boosts to his or her water…all of our boosts are all natural have zero sugar and taste great….

we just completed our beta test in a gym in LA and we were very well received…we did use some video from that beta site to explain a bit about our company.

Our company was also created to generate revenue to donate to Charity water helping people less fortunate than ourselves have access to clean water and sanitation …

Our business model is a simple website and manages the machines for free and the site owner shares in the revenue without lifting a finger… Our water and water plus boost drinks are cheaper than bottle branded products and we do away with the huge carbon footprint of tucking and shipping this heavy product around the world.

We are currently looking for our series A investment so we can roll out with our first 100 machines. We already have gyms and colleges signed up to the site.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Dealing with engineers is not an easy process. Finding good engineers is even harder. The R and D process was long and hard but an exciting challenge. I don’t think any business that is a disruptive technology has a smooth road…since we are by nature disrupting the status quo on how stuff is done the system wants to fight you every inch of the way.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about drink up – what should we know?
I think we are the first company ever to offer ultra-pure vitalized water at a fraction of the cost of bottled water and we do away with the plastic pollution and the transport issues associated with water as a hydration choice. We are most proud of the concept and execution to date of our goals. We are now in a holding pattern until we receive our series A investment.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Integrity, making people see the sense in using our machine over buying plastic bottled water and sports drinks.

Care for the environment. One of the reasons we started this was to rid the country of all the plastic bottles going to landfills… We need more awareness of this and people need to also realize that food and beverage packed in plastic is causing them health issues…

Passionate. You have to be 100% behind your mission or there will be days that will make you want to give up…. It’s a hard journey so believing in yourself and your company is vital.
