Today we’d like to introduce you to Eyal Simko.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Eyal. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I was 12 years old I went to a teen night club. I was mesmerized by the DJ and the way he commanded the attention of everyone in the room without saying a word. He did this all through his music. I told him I wanted to work with him but I was only 12 years old at the time. He said, “come back to me when you’re 16.”
The day I turned 16, I knocked on his door and said: “You owe me a job!” I started DJ’ing right away. The following year, I picked up the microphone and started hosting events. Shortly after that, I began producing them and people started to notice my work. I got calls from other companies asking me to freelance and host events with them. At that point, I realized I had something special that needed to be explored further.
Since the age of 16 my world has been events. I eat, breathe, sleep events and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Seven years ago I moved operations from Toronto to Los Angeles and it’s been the greatest business decision I have done thus far.
One Up Entertainment provides more than just event planning services or music or A/V at your events. We provide an experience. We pride ourselves on creating bespoke experiences that leave a lasting impression far beyond the event itself. I never thought my ultimate passion would eventually turn into a career, business venture, and most importantly a lifestyle. I say lifestyle because it takes a lot of work and energy to produce successful events, and when you’re truly passionate about this, it’s hard to call it work.
I started from scratch. No financial help, no mentors, no advice, just passion, and vision. Confucius said it best. Find a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I launched the company here in LA, it was obviously like starting from scratch, so the challenge of establishing the name, the service, and reputation in the industry was going to be challenging. Thankfully our team really pulled it together and delivered some incredible events for our clients. Once you do one event, you have a lot of eyes on you seeing your work, and our demand grew from there.
