Today we’d like to introduce you to Ester Na.
Ester, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I remember listening to the radio when I was around 6 years old, and I heard this beautiful instrument playing on the radio. I didn’t know the name of the instrument back then, but my mom told me that I wanted to learn the cello. And that’s where my musical journey started, which led me to where I am now.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has been a challenging but exciting journey. I think the struggles were that there is no guideline or formula on how to become a professional musician. It’s a constant search of re-learning, re-finding, re-routing, and re-strategizing yourself, and that takes patience and courage.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a music producer, multi-instrumentalist, and composer. I love creating songs, performing on stage, and scoring for film/TV. I have toured with Maggie Rogers and Willow Smith as the keyboardist and also recorded on various albums such as on ‘Your Love’ by the renowned guitarist Lari Basilio alongside Vinnie Colaiuta (drums) and bass players Sean Hurley and Leland Sklar.
As 1/2 of the music production duo ‘The Wildcards,’ I co-produced alongside my production partner Sadie Currey for RAYE (UK artist) on the record ‘Call On Me,’ K-Pop Groups such as EXO and NCT127, and many more.
I’m also a part of our newly formed neo-soul R&B band called ‘Eddy’, with band members Raquel Castro and Sadie Currey, which I’m really stoked about.
Lately, I’ve also been working on my own music under my artist name, ‘Ester Na,’ and I’m very excited to be sharing them with the wider audience. The latest song I released was this past April and is called ‘Falling In Love.’ I collaborated with the amazing Izzy Marcil who helped me with the songwriting part and sang on it beautifully. It’s about refinding yourself and loving yourself again.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I really love the book ‘Art & Fear’ by David Bayles and Ted Orland, that walks the reader through all the stages of being an artist and about artmaking. Another book that impacted me highly was ‘Man’s Search for Meaning’ by Viktor Frankl.
