Meet Erin Remington and Nikki Mata of P/ELLE in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Remington and Nikki Mata.

Erin and Nikki, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It all started in the beginning stages of quarantine when we wanted to solve a problem with the shortage of PPE wear. We shifted our focus to those closest to us in the medical field and wanted to help find a solution to keeping protective wear for them. We had noticed while going to the grocery store and walking our dog everyday, we were wearing large/bulky gardening gloves and recognized an opportunity to create something that was more desirable. Our own personal work was slowed down as digital freelancers and we saw an opportunity to do something creative with our time. P/ELLE was born, a modern-take on everyday, protective gloves that is sustainable, eco-friendly and made from recycled fabric, thus helping to eliminate plastic waste.

Has it been a smooth road?
Where do we begin… First off, starting a business while in lockdown is the first struggle. Finding and sourcing an entire 60 yards of fabric without either touching or seeing was a big risk! Neither of us have experience in fashion production, we had to go in blind faith with the referrals we had. It was really important for both of us to keep the production and materials sourced in LA as much as possible. Not to mention the funding for this project was limited, as we had both lost the bulk of our work almost overnight.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with P/ELLE – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
We are a sustainable and eco-friendly glove line. What we are most proud of is that we took this risk together as friends and business partners… While we were on the search for chic and modern everyday gloves at the beginning of the lockdown, we saw that our options were limited. Creating a modern, everyday glove is what we feel sets us apart in the market.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
LA first and foremost is home being that we are both natives. We love how diverse, creative and unique the culture of the city can be, every neighborhood holds its own flavor. It’s home to both underground artists and the most influential people in the world. We love the real and raw parts of this city as it holds the people with the most beautiful stories ever told. LA holds its own challenges but if you are up for it, she worth the risk.
