Meet Erika Robinson of Chaos To Organized

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Robinson.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always been an organized person. As a child I would go to friends’ homes and organize their rooms. When I became a mother to three children in a short amount of time I had to stay organized to avoid utter chaos in my home. I was a busy stay at home mom for 14 years then life threw me a big curve ball. My marriage was over after 20 years and I was a single Mom to my three children. Due to financial strains of the divorce I had to make a difficult decision to sell the family home. The only home my children had ever known. I instantly knew I had to down size and purge about 70% of what I owned. My children and I moved into a 900 square foot apartment. I had to make this all work for my family quickly due to a 3 week escrow. Determined to show my children Mom is ok, we’re going to be ok I went into overdrive. During my children’s weekend visit with their father I closed escrow, moved, unpacked, hung pictures, moved the family pets in and had a home cooked dinner waiting for their arrival to our new home. During this stressful and sometimes chaotic 3 weeks I saw I could help others downsize, purge and organize their homes. After things started to settle down and we got used to our new family life I started to think what could I do that would work around the busy lives of 3 children? Someone very close to me said,” Find your passion and go for it!” A week later I was licensed, insured, started online classes, hired a web designer, graphic designer and more. This is a story of how anyone can take the bricks life throws at you and create a firm foundation. A fresh start to a happier life is always possible if you make it happen.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The main struggle I’ve had is similar to any working Mom. Balancing work, children, a personal life and home. Being the only parent in the home means I’m spread pretty thin. We do a lot more laundry, grocery shopping and errands after school and on weekends than we used to.

Please tell us about Chaos To Organized.
My business is called Chaos to Organized. I’m a professional organizer specializing in downsizing, small spaces and families. I am most proud when I see I’m helping clients. Some of my favorite comments have been “I feel free, I feel a weight is lifted, this is a cleansing experience, you gave us our home back, I don’t know why I waited so long, you aren’t judgmental…” I think what sets me apart from others is that I have a personal story which gave me the idea to start this business. I can use my own story of rising up out of a painful situation to help others.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory isn’t a specific one. Rather is a feeling. I grew up also with a single Mom but I never felt unusual, scared or like I was lacking something. I felt safe, loved and happy.
