Meet Erik and Carolyn Pampalone of Naya Spa in Chatsworth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erik and Carolyn Pampalone.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Erik and Carolyn. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Naya opened in June 2008. What started as a side business became a passion for helping people. Naya has evolved over the last 10 years but has stayed true to the core beliefs. We are an eco-friendly day spa from the ground up. The materials we used to build out our furniture and fixtures is, as much as possible, recycled from the original building material. For example, our couches are made from old book shelves.

Eco-friendly also means the products and practices we use and promote.

We have always been about bringing an exceptional experience to our guests. We like to take people out of their world and bring them into the moment. I know we did our job when people are in the present and not focused on the past or future. That is satisfaction to us.

With these as our core, we have evolved. The business opened during the worst recession in US history, which means we had to learn what worked and what did not. We have expanded from three rooms to five and have been constantly tweaking our services to what people want.

By January 2019 we expect to have our first set of medical procedures included in our offering.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The recession was our biggest hurdle.

Getting our name out to the public has always been a challenge.

Effectively managing our investments.

Please tell us about Naya Spa.
We focus on the experience. Naya does not compete with the high-turnover massage parlors. We have a full set of esthetic and body services. All our services incorporate aromatherapy. Before our guests even enter the building, they are greeted by star jasmine bushes, designed to start the aroma journey without necessarily being aware of the effect of the outside environment on our internal space.

All our services include the use of our lounge and shower facilities, and complementary beverages and chocolates. In addition, we rotate through different products for our members and guests to use while they enjoy the spa.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Hiking around the Chatsworth mountains with friends.
