Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric the Trainer.
Eric the Trainer, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I began my fitness career in New York City, where I worked for five years as a trainer at New York Sports Club. After moving to Los Angeles, I continued training while learning from Jack LaLanne. Under his direction, I completed 40,000 push-ups to raise money for charity. I then opened a facility in Burbank, the ETT Mecca, and have hosted the tv show “Celebrity Sweat” for the past five years. My clientele consists of top actors, musicians, and celebrity chefs.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Moving from one city to another, especially across the country, can be career death for a personal trainer. After all, it’s who you know and your reputation that lands your clients. So initially, being new to Los Angeles was a challenge. Unlike New York, where people are crammed in close quarters most of the time, LA has a car culture so person-to-person contact is minimal. Luckily, I was almost immediately hired by a training company so breaking the ice was an easier task. But they were charging clients $100/hour and paying me $23/hour — so at first the financials were not in my favor.
Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about you and your career so far?
As a full-service fitness company, ETT Corp is best known for specializing in physical transformation. Rather than simply exercising to increase athleticism, we use fitness as a tool to increase the good looks and good health of our clients. And because most of our clients are working as on camera talent, we prioritize beauty over athletic performance. By taking people on the journey from normal to extraordinary, our before/after results are uncanny.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
There are many individuals who contribute to our success, from mentors like Jack LaLanne and enthusiastic clients like Def Leppard to our incredible group of trainers and support staff who dedicate themselves to forging ahead in our mission to change the world. To make a profound difference in an industry, one must enlist the help of others. Our celebrity clients act as megaphones for our message of living a happier, healthier life, and our goal to motivate and inspire others is brought to fruition by our team.
