Meet Eric Anderson of Eric Anderson Counseling in Pasadena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Anderson.

Eric, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Going through Graduate school to become a therapist, my goals was always to be in private practice and have my own and run my own business in that regard. I’ve always had something of an entrepreneurial spirit having worked in nonprofits and briefly as a musician I was excited about the idea of starting my own practice and working for myself.

Prior to being in private practice, I developed my specialties through attending various trainings and working internship and gaining my hours towards licensure I gained knowledge and expertise in the fields of addiction and trauma treatment. In the fall of 2015, I started my practice in Pasadena and it has been steadily building ever since.

Has it been a smooth road?
One of the biggest struggles I’ve faced is being younger in the field. Working as a therapist is a common second career for many but for me this is what I’ve always felt I was best at and known how to do. The nature of a lot of helping professionals but particularly in mental health is that client and patients wonder about my life experience and ability to help them. If anything, it’s helped me to better demonstrate my ability to connect with people in the midst of their difficult circumstances and show them the path through and to healing.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Eric Anderson Counseling – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I run a private therapy practice specializing in the treatment of addiction and trauma. I’ve had a wealth of experience in both these areas both personally and professionally having working in intensive inpatient, outpatient, and weekly therapy setting. I’ve found this equips me to be able to identify and help clients get the level of care they need. What’s more, I feel I’ve always had the ability to connect with people in many different places and can help client’s sort out how they got to the place they are in, the cycles they are currently stuck in, and how to break those cycles and establish healthier patterns in life.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Pasadena is home for me and it’s a town I love to work in. It’s central to a lot of places and accessible to a lot of places around it. Los Angeles is an interesting town in that there are so many different areas and cities that are completely different from one town to the next.

Pasadena feels like something of a retreat away from all the chaos around LA county but is still not far from the buzz and excitement of it all. I find it’s a great metaphor for what I hope my therapy practice to be; a safe retreat away from it all to help clients come get things back on track and then go back into their lives.
