Today we’d like to introduce you to Enrique Cervantes.
Enrique, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Music has been with me all my life. Since I was a child, my dad would play the guitar and sing for us. The influence of me getting into music was from him. I started to play the violin in elementary school. Its no guitar but it was still dope learning an instrument. From that, I went to learn to play percussions. From playing the bells to timpani’s to claves and other things. Really learned how to music around that time as well which was amazing. Knowing the notes and also playing around with them to create original work. After middle school, I didn’t continue playing music, took a break from everything and just wanted to have fun with going out with friends to parties and what not. I had friends outside of school working on music and I always thought about creating my own. So by senior year, I started to get into music producing. My homie Sars Beats got me into fruity loops and taught me the basic of it. From sampling a record to a little bit of mixing.
As soon as I learned what he taught me, I was in work mode after that. I didn’t wanna do anything other than making music. Having so much fun, enjoying the moods that it brings to someone. I started to work with Endz & Dave Allen. Later to be joined to LGCLTV. LGCLTV was formed by Kevin Ferrer and Dave Allen. Years after, I met Vel The Wonder in a tour that Reverie was putting on together. We became good friends and started to work on music together. One song led to another which turned out to be a whole different type of vibe of music. Vel would sing here and there in her performances and we tried doing a whole album with her singing and we did. We created Melotonics which is also the name of the group. A duo that consists of myself and Vel The Wonder. We released our first self titled album in December 2016. I started to drop singles with Endz through 2018. Worked on an album with Empress Monthra, who’s part of the Late Shift. We produced Bread & Butter, an album by Endz. I also worked on a full-length LP with Vel The Wonder called La Sena Ave. We had the pleasure to have a placement on the HBO show Euphoria. One of my biggest goals to score a film or to place on a show. Now I’m working on my own album, my own music and also working on Melotonics II.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Had its ups and downs. Can’t dwell on what happens to us, we gotta accept it and move along. Times can be tough but we gotta appreciate that we are still alive and that we can still make it. Wether is being a musician or a plumber or to own your own place.
What else should we know about you and your work? What are your most proud of?
Being able to work with everyone’s type of vibe. From making trap beats to soulful beats, I can create a song around your vocals to add more flavor to them.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’m not so sure but I feel like this is where I’m supposed to be right now. From meeting my friends to meeting my idols and mentors.
