Meet Emory Lawrence of Los Angeles, CA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emory Lawrence

Hi Emory, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Thank you for the opportunity to tell my story.

I was born and raised in Detroit, MI growing up with a strong single mother. I was no stranger to adversity and huge obstacles while coming up in challenging parts of the city. My childhood neighborhoods consisted of “Family Balance” along with Drugs, prostitution, alcohol and violence. But, I knew my path was different from everyone around me. Growing up I had a great example of a man through my Grandfather and Step-Father who was a musician. As time went on I had dreams of becoming an Electrical engineer for Ford motor company. I attended Michigan State University and took somewhat of a pivot and changed my major to Telecommunications & Media Arts (After several changes lol). I settled on that major because it focused on Television Production. Everything in the entertainment world came about in 2003 (Once I graduated). I remained living in Lansing, MI for a short while after graduating and got into some trouble, I was charged with “Maintaining and drug house” and “Criminal sexual conduct, first degree”, all because I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. After several trial dates and frustration with the justice system, all of the charges were dropped and it was found out that the woman involved was lying the entire time.

Fast forward, I moved to Newark, NJ to get away and have a fresh start in 2005. I was a fashion model in NYC and had the opportunity to do several runway shows with many designers like “Sean John” and even had a fashion spread in a popular magazine back then, called “The Source”. I was able to book several branding photoshoots and Ad campaigns. But there was still something missing, passion for what I was pursuing. It wasn’t until 2005 where I discovered my passion and purpose in acting. I was in a stage play in Detroit called “Love Is’, and fell in love. From that point I was still living in NYC but later moved to LA in 2007 to take this new found passion seriously.

I’ve been in LA for almost 15 years total and wouldn’t trade any of it for the world. During that time my son was born in 2016 (with my ex wife). During this entire time I had been pursuing acting part-time, while working in corporate America as a sales consultant. I’ve had about 16 corporate positions over the past decade, simply because I knew what my calling was, ACTING. So, now after many obstacles, a divorce, being homeless (Living out of my car) and living the mantra “Never give up”, things are starting to take off. I have done over 30 independent projects from films to television series’. And now my dream of being on network television are within my grasp. I can happily say that all of the training, financial sacrifice and positive thinking, things are starting to bare fresh fruits.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been bumpy since the day I chose to pursue my dreams. There have been many set backs and also moments that could’ve permanently taken me off this earth. I was suicidal after my divorce, but the image of my son wouldn’t leave my mind as I held that 9mm handgun up to my head. Thank God I didn’t pull the trigger. I’ve also struggled with alcohol abuse in the past, trying to numb my feelings and erase all emotions and frustrations with God fro the responsibility placed on me. I felt that the things I was experiencing financially weren’t fair. How could things be this hard if I’m doing what I’m instructed to do by Jesus? Currently, I’m living out of my car (as of December 16th, 2025), thank God for a gym membership to shower at. But, I wouldn’t trade any of these hurdles and experiences for anything. I’ve learned so much about myself and God along the way.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Film and television actor with a lot of professional training and experience in this field. A lot of my work can be found on different streaming platforms such as Peacock, Amazon Prime and TUBI and soon to be many more. I’m most proud of being a father and mentor to my son, I grew up in a single parent home without my father present. So, it means the world to me to be responsible for helping to develop a little human that I helped create.

The main thing that sets me apart from others is my Faith in Jesus Christ, and my “Never give up” mentality. I don’t have anything to prove to anyone, only myself. I know I’m here for a huge purpose and will never waiver from the responsibility and struggle that comes with fulfilling that purpose.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happy is being a soldier for God, being a father and pursuing a unique dream. All while maintaining my faith in God and living life with integrity and being a good kind person.
