Today we’d like to introduce you to Emmanuel Pedroza.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Emmanuel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve been playing music in one way or another since I was in the 5th grade when I got my first bass and learned about guitar tabs online. I have a laundry list of old bands, but the first release under my name and with me singing every song came out almost three years ago. I had always written songs but was finally able to record my own music once I got Ableton. This year I put out a new EP in May, which is also self-titled (Emmanuel Pedroza EP), and it works sort of like a fast-forward montage. It starts with a song that could have been on my first album but also has one of the newest songs on it. Putting new music out in 2020 is a bittersweet pill, but now that we’re here, I’m going to try and share the newest best stuff I have in the best way I can under the circumstances.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road was never smooth and continues being a bumpy unpaved one. The challenges have really been practical everyday challenges like keeping a band going and growing while paying rent and car payments. It’s never been a hobby for me and it’s the most important thing to me besides family. But frustration builds when you can’t do the things you want to do as much as you know you could or should be doing them. But I’ve always remembered that the only reason I play music every day is because I love to do it and I love making new things.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I make indie rock music and play all around the Southern California area. With music and with musicians, the real currency is BEING KNOWN, so I’m not sure how to say what we’re known for. Those that know us might say we play like a Rock band in a time that there aren’t many good rock bands. I’m most proud of the songs I’ve put out and the fact that I’ve put my truest expression of music out to be witnessed and judged for anyone who cares to do so. What sets me apart is that nobody else can be me the same way nobody can be anyone else. I hope some of my songs feel like you’re looking at a close up portrait of my face. But the next one will be an abstract.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck has been a huge part of my life in music. Firstly, my mom’s side of the family (she’s one of eight) are almost all musicians or musical in some way. My tios Justo and Ramon still bust out the guitars and sing in harmony on Christmas and any other time they’re around with their guitars. So I’ve always had the influence and older dudes to teach me a thing or two. Most of the guys I play music with now I met in high school. You just get lucky and meet some like-minded people early in your life. And others you wouldn’t recognize on the bus.
