Meet Emma Dayton Petersen of The Everyday Actor in Studio City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Dayton Petersen.

Emma Dayton, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Originally from the East Coast, I came out to LA to be an actor. After getting my BFA in Acting, I realized that I was not at all prepared for the business world of acting. As a beginning actor, where do you start? What is the first step? And then the next step after that? These are some of the questions I wanted to tackle when I first started The Everyday Actor.

Through my podcast, I interview different working actors and other industry professionals to pick their brains about how they got to where they are, and what their daily life in this industry looks like. I ask about the good, the bad, and ugly because honesty about the industry is very important to me. Through The Everyday Actor community, I provide insight, information, and resources for beginning actors looking to break into the world of Hollywood!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As with a lot of businesses, the COVID-19 quarantine has caused some struggles. I was no longer able to do in-person interviews and had to start doing remote interviews using SquadCast. Along with this comes a big financial commitment since I had to buy all new equipment, and pay for additional software to keep The Everyday Actor up and running. But, once the hurdle of figuring out the technical side of remote interviews was over, doing these interviews has kept me connected to other artists around me during a time of isolation. I am forever thankful for technology, and for the connections created through The Everyday Actor.

Please tell us about The Everyday Actor.
At The Everyday Actor, I specialize in creating quality content geared towards actors and other industry professionals looking to break into the world of Hollywood. I am known for my podcast, The Everyday Actor, which has interviews with professionals in the industry providing insight, knowledge, and resources for people looking to break into the world of acting and film.

As the creator of this company, I am so proud of the family that we have created. Each interviewee has been so helpful, inviting, and warm towards the listeners and the connections between everyone have been so collaborative and helpful. This is what separates us from other companies and other podcasts. I call the listeners, the interviewees, and everyone involved The Everyday Actor Family because that really is what we are. A family that encourages each other and wants to see each other succeed.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I feel lucky to have a great support system around me, encouraging me to start The Everyday Actor, and cheering me on since day one. Not everyone is lucky enough to have friends and family support their dreams of being in the arts.

But aside from support, luck has not had much of an effect on the success of The Everyday Actor. I believe that luck happens when opportunity meets preparation and I prepared, studied, and researched for months before ever investing in any equipment. I interview people that I know are 100% in this to help others, and make sure that I am 100% honest with everyone involved. Creating The Everyday Actor was a product of hard work and passion, not one of luck. (But I am lucky to live in a place where pursuing the arts is possible and encouraged.)
