Meet Emily Wright

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Wright.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
It all started when my high school friend convinced me to go to cosmetology school with her. The decision was completely on a whim, but I ended up falling in love with creating! Hair and makeup became my passion and a way that I could make a tiny impact in a positive way for people.

Orlando area is where I grew up and where I started my career. First in the salon, then going into bridal, then working in television and film. If I was going to grow, I knew that I needed to make a move to LA. My husband is full time in the music industry; LA seemed like a place where both of us could thrive. We sold everything that wouldn’t fit in our car and drove across the country.

“Starting fresh” in a way, was extremely difficult, and yet has been one of the best choices! At the moment, I work every weekend running my bridal hair and makeup company and spend the week working production. I love my job! I get to be around new people and new places every day. Every job is different, and that keeps things exciting for me.

Please tell us about your art.
I provide hair styling and makeup for clients all over LA, Orange County, and destination. Inspiration for me comes from a lot of unique people and places. Other artists, seasoned pros who’ve been in the industry for 20 or 30 years. (Artists like Lisa Eldridge, Wayne Goss, Monika Blunder). Learning from their work and technique and experience, and learning why they do things their certain way helps me keep evolving as an artist. I also draw inspiration from my client’s individuality. Every face is unique. I could use the same products and method, but it will always be a custom look.

I hope when people leave my chair, they feel confident and beautiful. My approach to hair and makeup is more natural and effortless. I want them to see themselves in the mirror still.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
I believe success links with your mindset. You can create whatever life you want for yourself!! Surrounding myself with people who are where I want to be, mentors – that is invaluable! No matter how far I go, I never want to stop learning from the people around me.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Instagram is a great place to see kind of the unfiltered/behind-the-scenes glance of my work!
