Meet Emilia Ortiz of Downtown Pomona

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emilia Ortiz.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been an artist all my life. Throughout my life i’ve taken multiple art classes, from film, to sculpture, to learning how to sew. Any art medium, you name it. I believe my purpose in life is to create art and share my talent with the youth.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Having doubts being a creative is natural. I’ve always struggled with creating art and being confident in my style. I’ve learned that my style can be inconsistent, that I am me at the end of the day and creating is my passion.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Currently i’m an artist teacher at the dA Center for the Arts in Pomona. I’m in contract with PUSD to go to the schools of pomona and give children the opportunity to learn about art. I specialize in creativity and sharing my passion with the world. I’d say what sets me apart from others is my drive to create.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Everyone i’ve met at my work place have been amazing mentors. They’ve taught me to be kind to myself, and to never let my passion die. I’d say find a job you like and create community within it.
