Today we’d like to introduce you to Elyse Graham.
Elyse, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After graduating from college, I moved back to Los Angeles and started a jewelry line called Elephant Heart Jewelry. Philanthropy is very important to me, so partnering with our customers to give back to our community was an important aspect of the business. I also had a fine art practice and was experimenting with resin in the large scale sculptures I was creating.
In 2012, I decided to combine the jewelry business with my fine art practice and in 2014 launched an eponymous line of handmade design objects. The Elyse Graham Studio is a place where unusual materials and experimental processes are implemented to create a melding of art and object. We design by making–with a sense of curiosity, wonder, and joy.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The studio is built around experimentation, so failures are part of the process. I can confidently say that each mishap and misstep has been a learning experience and has forced us to push ourselves further. I am grateful for every struggle–I can’t imagine where we would be without them!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
The Elyse Graham Studio specializes in unique handmade functional objects for the home. We make vases, mirrors, and some furniture pieces. Our work is predominantly made from plaster and resin, and we develop unusual processes and techniques for working with these materials. We find ways to make our wildest visions of color and pattern a reality.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
What an impossible question! I can’t really even fathom the luck of being born in the first place. I think curiosity and exploration have shaped the course of my life as much as luck. I’m not sure where this path I’m on will lead, but I couldn’t ask for a better adventure.
