Meet Elizabeth Rich of Liz Rich Studio in Sherman Oaks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Rich.

Elizabeth, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve known from a young age that I wanted to be a cosmetologist, but as you get older you start to feel like you have to adapt to societal norms. Go to college and get a job. After graduating from Hampton University, I moved to D.C and worked for the government as a contract specialist. At the time, I was just happy to have a job lol, but as some time went by I realized that it wasn’t for me. It wasn’t until my dad passed away that I realized life is too short and it was time for a career change. I started looking into cosmetology schools and eventually attended the Aveda Institute of Atlanta. After being in Atlanta for some time, I decided to move to LA with one of my best friends to pursue my career as a hair artist.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I arrived in LA, it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows, it was rough. From working jobs that didn’t pay well, to working for employers that don’t value you, and just doing jobs that had nothing to do with my goals.

Eventually, I started to build my clientele which led me to work with some pretty dope people and open my salon studio.

Please tell us about Liz Rich Studio.
I currently have a salon studio in Sherman Oaks, where I specialize in hair color and healthy hair. One of my most proudest moments would have to be working at the Grammys last year under Cardi B’s team.

What sets me apart from others is my positive energy. I try to create an environment where my clients will always leave with a smile on their face. That’s the beauty of my job, making people feel good about themselves even when they’re having a bad day.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I come from a tight-knit family, so I would say my favorite childhood memory is having Christmas dinner with my family. You don’t realize how treasurable those moments are until you get older.
