Meet Elizabeth Hendrickson and Sarah Sluder of Ellie and Sass in Venice Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Hendrickson and Sarah Sluder.

Sarah had been doing lashes out of her house for a few years, her business was rapidly growing and Lizzie was a close friend and client. We both saw a need in Venice, a place where women could get everything accomplished in one place. We were both tired of spending a full day at least of running around all of LA to have our womanly needs met. We wanted to create a welcoming, community-like minded space where women could experience all of their beauty needs.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Lizzie: To be honest, we’ve been lucky as it is has been pretty smooth sailing the past three years. Yes of course we have encountered some roadblocks or challenges but they have been incredible learning experiences and only helped us grow as partners and as a business. I think we’re lucky because there are two of us. We have a really good balance and we support each other. We’ve taken every step along the way together as a team. Sarah: We really put our heart and soul into the salon. Our biggest obstacle would have been the renovations and getting started. We did most of the work ourselves, and with the help of my handy husband and Lizzie’s eye for design and my technical details, we created an amazing space.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Ellie and Sass story. Tell us more about the business.
Ellie and Sass is a multi-purpose salon. Thanks to Sarah’s existing clientele we were mostly known for lashes but now we are known for lashes, nails, brows and facials! We also have full body waxing and Microblading. You can get your nails done while you do your lashes, which is a huge time saver for our clients. We are most proud of having an incredible team that is hardworking, talented, efficient and supportive of each other. We have become like a little family. You can always expect to feel welcomed and taken care of when you visit E&S.

What were you like growing up?
Lizzie was always outgoing, loved being with and around people and was a part of a small businesses growing up. She was raised watching her parents bring her community together through food at their family restaurants one of which still exists in NY for the last 40 years. Sarah was born in Switzerland and moved to the States when she was 7. She was outgoing and always loved the beauty industry as a child. The salon setting was always so fascinating to her.
