Meet Elise Brisco of Hollywood Vision Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elise Brisco.

Elise, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
How important is your vision and looking good to you? If you are like the majority of Dr. Elise Brisco’s patients, it’s super important, and living a healthy lifestyle is Job One.

Dr. Brisco didn’t become an integrative optometrist overnight. She evolved over years of caring for patients and her own family. She found that many health issues couldn’t be treated by writing a prescription for medication or prescription glasses. She started looking for answers, and gradually found many natural ways to help patients not only visually, but also to perform better in life, and to improve their quality of life, in many cases using more natural options.

Dr. Brisco is an Integrative Optometrist and Clinical Homeopath. Her practice, the Hollywood Vision Center was founded in 1919. Since she joined 30 years ago, she has developed a practice that incorporates wellness, aesthetics and homeopathy. Several areas of specialty services that her practice provides include:

* MoisturEyes Dry Eye Spa: medical and aesthetic. We are adding an IPL to address the inflammatory aspect of dry eye as well as skin rejeuvenation.
* Children’s Vision
* Vision Therapy
* Scleral contact lenses for keratoconus and dry eyes
* Non-surgical myopia reduction through Ortho K lenses
* Rehabilitative Vision (after stroke and concussion)
* Sports Vision Enhancement
* Anti-aging for vision and eyes
* Low Vision Aids
* Custom designed glasses
* Clinical Homeopathy

My “East Meets West” approach incorporates both Western medicine as well as natural alternatives that respect the body’s natural healing abilities. She practices with well-known acupuncturist/Chinese Medicine doctor and author Dr. Yi QIao.

I love helping patients perform their best by improving their vision through traditional as well as innovative ways. I look at my patient’s needs and lifestyle and make recommendations to improve their quality of life by helping them see their best and look their best. I educate and inspire patients on how to age gracefully and live a healthy lifestyle.

I am a health and fitness fanatic, and I love inspiring patients to live life to it’s fullest by educating them about nutrition and fitness. I also incorporate stress management into my recommendations based on a patient’s needs. In fact, I co-formulated a homeopathic eye medication that incorporates ingredients for stress and anxiety.

I am also the co-founder of a start up NearSight. I invented and patented a health tech device to replace reading glasses on the go. It means that you won’t need to carry reading glasses with you to see on and off your phone. We are currently in the seed round to raise money to bring NearSight to market.

Has it been a smooth road?
As a woman doctor, I faced obstacles professionally, but nothing that I didn’t overcome. Most women will agree, especially in my generation, that we had to work harder to achieve success. It definitely builds character, but you have to have a strong work ethic.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Hollywood Vision Center – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
We are a holistic optometric center that caters to patients who want cutting edge vision care integrated with wellness care and homeopathy. I am one of the few optometrists in the U.S. who is also certified as a Clinical Homeopath.

Our goal is to help patients achieve their wellness goals of which vision, beauty and overall health are a big part of.

Our specialty services set us apart. We are one of the only practices that includes such a wide range of services including:

* Vision Therapy (to improve academic, executive and athletic performance)
* Rehabilitative Vision (for patients with brain injury such as concussion and stroke)
* Scleral Contact Lenses (keratoconus, dry eyes)
* MoisturEyes Dry Eye Spa (rejuvenation of dry, tired eyes associated with age and computer use)
* Ortho K lenses to reduce myopia without surgery
* Anti-aging related to eyes and vision
* Pediatric optometry – I did a post-doctorate Fellowship in Developmental Optometry and children’s vision

I am proud to have helped tens of thousands of patients in the past 30 years live life to their fullest through vision and wellness care. I have been the first in many areas including:

* First female team doctor in the NHL when I was appointed the Team Optometrist of the Anaheim Ducks
* One of an elite group of Neuro-optometrists in the country to be a founder of a hospital-based Rehabilitative Vision Clinic which I co-founded at the Cedars Sinai Medical Center
* Founder of NearSight, a start-up company where I invented and patented a device to replace reading glasses

I did most of this while being a single mother, and still found the time to co-coach my son’s sports teams including Little League and AYSO soccer. My teams have gone to the championship in both leagues, and this year we won the Majors Championship in our Little League!

What sets us apart from others is that we are a holistic practice that combines the best of traditional optometry with holistic principles and homeopathy. We provide vision care from a health, performance, and cosmetic basis.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the vibrant energy and diverse cultures of Los Angeles. We are a dynamic city because of the people. LA has a healthy lifestyle culture which allows someone like me to thrive! I love the people in LA and especially my patients who are like an extended family to me.

The main drawback about Los Angeles is the traffic. It is unpredictable, which makes it difficult to estimate how long it will take to get to where you need to go 🙁
