Meet Elena Vasilenka

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elena Vasilenka.

Elena, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My story starts ten years ago in New York City when I first stepped into my modeling agent’s office. She was playing beautiful mantra music, ” Hari Har”. I asked her who was this music by, and she told me it was by a renowned spiritual teacher, Dr. Joseph Michael Levry, the founder of Naam Yoga. She recommended that I try one of the Naam classes, which I did and immediately fell in love with the practice. I became a student of Dr. Levry, taking every training offered and eventually moved to Los Angeles, where the international headquarters of Naam Yoga opened in 2011.

I started my own private coaching practice seven years ago. My first product was a DVD program “Naam Yoga Therapies for Happiness”, that was featured on NBC and LA Yoga magazine. I then went into publishing my first book, ” I AM HAPPY “, which became a bestseller on Amazon. Today I work with clients from all over the world in private and over the phone. The main purpose of my work is to help people heal trauma and depression through spirituality, breathwork, and Naam meditation.

Has it been a smooth road?
Starting out a new practice in Los Angeles was not without a few difficulties and challenges. It was challenging because I did everything without the help of any PR firm or a publicist and I was on a small budget. But I used personal connections from the past, and eventually got an interview on NBC about my DVD program to heal depression, and later magazines like LA Yoga and Viva ( Canadian health magazine) wanted to write articles on me. I then started to teach more internationally, and my program was translated into other languages and started to sell in other countries.

But then it so happened that people stopped using DVDs altogether, and I had to shift everything online in the form of courses. So that was another learning curve. When I published my book I had four cities book tours, which was a great success. Again a lot of locations and spreading the word was done because of my personal connections and with the help of my publisher, Saba Tekle and the international Naam community, my book became a bestseller on Amazon within four days of launching it on the platform. So I feel fortunate that I had so much support from people in my life who believed in me and helped me to get my practice off the ground.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I now have a private practice, where I see patients in person for a Harmonyum Healing sessions, do spiritual coaching over the phone and I also teach Shakti Naam every week in Naam studio in Santa Monica. I teach Shakti Naam Master Classes internationally and host book presentations regularly.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like everything about what I do because when you do what you love, it heals you. I am happiest when I teach, coach or write. The only dislike I have about what I do is the amount of time I spend on social media, with having to get my events, videos and work promoted. But I know it comes with the territory, and eventually, I plan on hiring an assistant to help me with that part of my business. But until then I am focusing on the blessings in my life, and do my best to keep the attitude of gratitude all the time.

  • Coaching session on the phone $150/h. First 30 min- FREE
