Meet El Segundo Fitness Trainer: Meghan Lukan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghan Lukan.  Below you’ll find edited excerpts of our interview with Meghan.

Can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.

My story takes us back to when I was 12 years old and realizing then that I had a strong desire to serve others as well as a love for exercise and nutrition. Being an avid altar server at church and athlete in school, pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology was an easy decision because it combined the 2 things I love the most; exercise and service. After receiving my Kinesiology degree from Iowa State University in 2013, I moved from my home state of Iowa to California to pursue my personal training career. Upon arriving in California, I began as an intern at a private training gym, then went on to a high-end commercial gym, and have now started my own personal training business, Lukan Fit. There is no doubt in my mind I would not be who I am as a person or as a professional if it wasn’t for God blessing me with my wonderful parents, Tim and Janet, brothers, Matt and David Lukan, and my mentor, Jason Estrada. Fitness is our driving force at Lukan Fit because we want to challenge you physically in order for you to build confidence within yourself to overcome challenges you may face outside of the gym. You will walk away with far more than just physical strength. We are here to give you hope again; we are here to listen to your challenges and triumphs; we are here to establish a realistic lifestyle transformation that enhances your quality of life. We will change your life. You will constantly hear me say that at Lukan Fit, “We are here to serve you!” I stand by this statement wholeheartedly because this is the sole reason our business is alive and thriving. We know you will love your journey with us at Lukan Fit! We are here to support you every step of the way!

Has it been a smooth road?

Has it been easy? No, I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily been easy, especially moving away from my family. But through the obstacles I’ve developed an unshakeable relationship with God that can’t be broken. He is my strength in any time of weakness. By simply acknowledging God’s presence in any situation, I’ve realized I’m instantly filled with a sense of Peace. This immediately takes away the feelings of stress, anger, sadness, and uneasiness and brings my thoughts back to everything will all work out. “For I will never leave you, nor forsake you, says the Lord.”

What are your plans for the future?

There are many places in our country that need our services. Based on the culture of these different areas, fitness and health might not be displayed as top priority, because of what may be perceived as limiting factors (weather, socio-economic status, etc) however, everyone deserves to feel their absolute best physically, mentally and spiritually. Our mission is to bring about a greater quality of life for all who take part in our program. I am confident our future will allow us to impact many people across our country for their better well-being.

Let’s dig a little deeper into your story.  What was the hardest time you’ve had?

In the early stages of moving to California, starting my career and growing our business, I found that my thoughts were overtaken by comparing what I was doing to others around me. “Why am I not as talented as he/she is?” “When is it my turn to win?” I internalized these thoughts that would mentally and physically exhaust me. I would somehow convince myself that I wasn’t or would never be “as good” as others in my field or personal life. The funny thing is, no one has ever told me I’m “not good enough”, in fact, I’ve been told the exact opposite countless times. I was the one convincing myself of these things.

Prayer has been my answer to getting through anything. A relationship with God is the most important and number 1 priority in my life. Now when I see others experiencing joy, it brings me hope. Hope in the fact that we are all children of the most holy one, He who can do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or imagine. We are all worthy of His blessings.

Believing in my heart that God is always with me is when I realized that no matter the challenge that comes our way, we will persevere. When I really found out who I was and who I wanted to continue to become, that’s when things began coming to fruition.

Do you ever just stop and think WOW – I’ve made it?

As a young business, we still have goals to grow in the hopes of helping more people. I’m grateful and excited for the people I’ll have the opportunity to meet along the way and hear their stories.

I, too, am proud of you and the fact that through you I became a member of Planet Fitness and work out most every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I wear my Lukanfit tshirt to my workout sessions. I worked with my trainer who designed my own program and I am eager to get started on this. You are a great inspiration, not only in the fitness world but in a beautiful spiritual world as well. God is good. Much love and God Bless you on your wonderful endeavor. Joan

Meghan, Your Aunt Joan forwarded this article to me. She is a good friend of mine and we were also high school classmates.I grew up in Dyersville. My parents were Carl and Irene Tobin. Our family always thought so highly of Tom and Shirley and their family. Tom was my first cousin. I am so impressed with what you’ve done already in your life. And, it is refreshing to see a young person with the deep faith that you have. I forwarded this article to my brother and sister, too. My brother Bill, graduated from ISU as did our granddaughter. She just graduated this past May. We are all so proud of you and I’m sure your grandpa, Tom, is looking down on you with great pride too. We wish you the best always!
