

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edith Eig.
Born in Paris, France, Edith Eig is the owner of the popular Studio City, CA knitting yarn emporium, La Knitterie Parisienne. A knitter since the age of five, Edith has stitched her business into one of the world’s most successful and internationally recognizable yarn stores in knitting history. She is also responsible for helping to nurture knitting’s thriving renaissance, putting what was once considered a lost art back into public consciousness.
A fashion forward designer, savvy entrepreneur and knitter, Edith is a regular fixture in the news and has appeared in such outlets as NBC’s TODAY, Entertainment Tonight, Access Hollywood, CNN, BBC, Newsweek, New York Times Sunday Styles, NPR’s Marketplace, Chicago Tribune and People magazine as a reliable source for expertise on knitting.
A highly-sought after designer, Edith’s hand-knit items have had quite a few star turns with prominent placement top rated TV shows. Edith’s custom designed knits have appeared on the Emmy-nominated TV show “Pushing Daisies.” She’s knit slippers and socks for Charlie Sheen’s character in the TV series ”Two and Half Men,” knit items for Sophia Coppola’s Academy Award-winning film, “Lost in Translation” and a hat with feathers for singer-songwriter Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac fame to wear in her music video. Recently, Edith’s knitted item have also appeared in “The Middle,” “Two Broke Girls,” “Bing Bang Theory,” “Masters of Sex.”
Edith’s shop was the go-to place for passionate knitters to gather and knit recent pink hats for the Women’s March.
Entertainment Tonight first called Edith, “Hollywood’s Knitting Guru,” which is apropos as she has personally taught many of Hollywood’s A-list the tricks of the trade, including Sarah Michelle Geller, Debra Messing, Hillary Duff, Rumer Willis, Krysten Ritter, to name just a few.
Edith launched her popular weekly “Sip ‘n’ Knit” social, which takes place every Wednesday evening at her shop. On any given business day, Men and women from all walks of life gather at the shop’s large inviting wood table to exchange stories and grow friendships. One hand knits, the other sip some wine and the combination is fine!
Edith had also translated her skills to the small screen as host of her own television show, “Knit One, Purl Two” on the DIY network and to the literary world as author of the critically-acclaimed book, Mother or Purl: Friends, Fun and Fabulous Designs at Hollywood’s Knitting Circle (HarperCollins).
For over 30 years Edith has wielded her knitting needles and crochet hooks turning skeins of yarns into exquisite works of wearable art. Her intuitive style and sensibilities has helped to build a thriving business of loyal and growing clients as well as celebrities who’ve come to rely on her expertise, knowledge, patience and uncompromising level of personal attention.
Edith is a graduate of the Sorbonne University in Paris, France. She co-owns La Knitterie Parisienne with her husband Merrill, a former Plastic Engineer.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Knitting has been around since the beginning of time…or there about…and it’s a hobby that is cyclical. La Knitterie Parisienne has successfully survived all sorts of economic environments, struggling somewhat when knitting wasn’t in vogue, but always working to make sure the craft stays alive.
Please tell us about La Knitterie Parisienne.
La Knitterie Parisienne is one of the largest knitting yarn boutiques in the U.S., located in Studio City, CA.
The shop carries a selection of over 15,000 different types of yarns, including a huge selection of popular cashmere and hand-dyed yarns.
The shop is owned by Edith Eig, who has a long, successful history as a pioneer and trendsetter in the industry. She is an ingenious designer, has an amazing sense of style, color and textures and continues to be at the forefront of what is considered trendy and worthwhile in the knitting world.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Growing up in Paris, and living a life of European sensibilities has stayed with me my entire life, and I bring a piece of that with me everyday to my La Knitterie Parisienne.
