Today we’d like to introduce you to Dusty Nabor.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Dusty. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I started Dusty Nabor Wines in 2015 after several years of collecting and appreciating wine. Through my travels throughout the wine industry, I was able to interact and befriend some very remarkable and influential winemakers. I was amazed at how open and forthright many winemakers were with their philosophies on winemaking as well as their techniques. There really were no secrets. I felt a passion for the process and decided to see if there was a way I could understand it better. The best way turned out to be to make wine myself. I started as most do, making wine in the kitchen in a small tub and glass carboy. Those that know me knew I would not be satisfied with that. I quickly searched out a facility where I could make wine on a commercial level. 4 Years later and we’ve gone from hand bottling a case in my kitchen to around a thousand case production of almost 20 different wines across three brands.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been a very bumpy road. I learn by doing, and that comes with its challenges. It means you are going to make mistakes and I’ve made several. But, as with anything, it’s not whether or not you make mistakes, it’s how you handle them and how much you learn from them. I often amaze myself with how much I’ve learned and how much acclaim has already been thrust onto our label. I work and try hard. I never settle or take short cuts. If a mistake means not releasing a wine and taking the hit rather than releasing a sub-standard product, we take the hit for sure. We never compromise… and that shows.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Dusty Nabor Wines story. Tell us more about the business.
Dusty Nabor Wines produces sight specific, terroir driven wines from California. We specialize in Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, Grenache, and Viognier. We mostly source our fruit from certified organic vineyards in Santa Barbara County including the Ballard Canyon, Sta Rita Hills and Happy Canyon AVA’s. We also source one of our varieties (Cabernet Sauvignon) from Paso Robles. We are most proud of our commitment to producing the best wines and wine experience possible; We never make any compromises when it comes to making the best wine we can. This sets us apart and is the only way we know how.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
We do see some trends shifting in the wine industry. We see some movement away from big, bold inaccessible wines to more natural, lower intervention and accessible wines.
