Meet Dubb MfG

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dubb MfG.

Hi Dubb, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had a love for music ever since I was still in diapers, whenever songs or music videos came on, I would run right in front of the tv and start doing all kinds of dances. Around eight years old, my cousin who was living in Inglewood at the time talked me into making my first song because he seen how much I loved music and how natural it came to me. After hearing that first song that’s when I knew music was what I wanted to do with my life. I didn’t take it seriously growing up and it got to a point where some people didn’t even know I was able to rap but shortly after my teenage years, I started to sit back and really focus on my craft. I began rapping with some friends, making freestyle videos to post online and even had music sessions where a cousin would take my phone put it on voice record and have me freestyle for hours until we forgot we was recording. That led me to taking my career serious and about 2 1/2 years ago I started making progress. I created a sound that’s unique to me and my personality, started doing shows and even created a small wave of my own that’s growing with each performance I do.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been everything but smooth. I mean that in a good way though. I went through every emotion possible while pursuing my career, all the way from feeling above the clouds cause a project turned out better than I hoped or I had people in the crowd yelling my slogan or singing my song. All the way down to breaking down, shutting off from everyone, wanting to quit music all together even contemplated getting rid of my entire studio, feeling I wasn’t good enough, or that I will end up a “wanna be rapper”. Struggling with thinking no one will like the music I’m making. Or rather it was struggles with finding support from friends and loved ones the way they support celebrities who don’t even know they exist. With all of that being said, I still wouldn’t change a direction on this road because it drove me to where I am today as an artist and a person.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
When it comes to my music, I’m my own engineer, graphic designer, editor, promoter and manager. I do it all. Even though I still struggle a bit when I come to a blank, I specialize in my pen work. I’m known to say things that will go over your head and at the same time, smack you in the mouth. I’m most proud of my presence. The way I carry myself in my music and performances even at events, it’s all authentic and I give me 100% of the time. What sets me apart from others is that I make the brand and the music, I don’t let it make me.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is staying true to myself. I don’t want to become someone I’m not or turn into someone I despise while pursuing my dreams. I want to hold on to my morals and my self-respect and still be able to recognize who I am years down the line.
