Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Soto.
Sarah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I always knew I would end up in fashion. In high school I was awarded the ‘Trend Setter” Class favorite, and from then it was decided, I had a natural knack for style and styling is what I wanted to do. We didn’t have instagram growing up, so you had to dig through fashion blogs & find your inspiration through street style and magazines. Oh the good old days.
After high school I moved to LA and attended The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) majoring in fashion design. Once I graduated I quickly fell into the industry. I collaborated Photographers & clothing brands in LA. I really just put myself out there and worked my butt off too.
I now continue to provide numerous fashion wardrobe services to local clients, photographers & fashion companies based in Los Angeles,Ca. I also am skilled in makeup & hair artisty so clients love booking me because I can do more than one job. I have successfully helped many clothing brands rise to success. For me a photo shoot is more than just a photo shoot, Its a way to translate a mood, build a connection & communicate a story.
Has it been a smooth road?
Becoming a wardrobe stylist has not always been a smooth road. In a major city like LA you have to compete with the best talent out there and that can be draining. Also I did not just become a successful stylist over night. I did alot of interning before and really had to prove my strengths.
What role has luck had in your life and career?
Luck has defiantly played a huge role in where I am today. I can honestly say I really was at the right place at the right time. Opportunity presented itself to me and I did not hesitate to go out and grab it. Luck can only take you so far though, Its up to the individual to take the next step and act on it.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I have 3 main qualities that I can truly say have lead me to my success. Motivation, drive & Wittiness .
Motivation kept me going even when I wanted to give up. Drive is something I have always had inside, Im driven to do the best I can at every job, Its in my DNA. My drive inside literally fuels me. And lastly my strongest personality trait…my wit.
I have a huge sense of humor and have always had a wittiness to me. I take my job very seriously but I always have fun with it. I love to make people laugh & always share new ideas with others that help keep the creative juices going. This is fashion so if your not having fun, your in the wrong field!
Tell us about your favorite and least favorites things about our city.
I love LA! The thing I enjoy best about the city is the atmosphere & opportunities that are bread in this city. There is so much you can discover, little gems here and there. There really is a abundance of creative, talented souls all striving for the top. Its very electric!
The thing I like the least about LA is the lack proper interactions at times. Los Angeles is a city that runs on fuel literally! You have to drive in LA so that makes interacting with your community harder than it would be if you were living in New York & London. Everyone is so caught up in the grind its easy to loose contact with people. You really have to prioritize and make it a point to go out, stay connected and meet people.
