Today we’d like to introduce you to Drayton Walker.
Drayton, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My interest in acting began while I lived in Hawaii. At the time, my mom and dad were both in the military and my mom was deployed to Afghanistan. One day, we were in the car when I heard a commercial on the radio about being an actor. That piqued my interest, so I told my dad. He thought I was kidding around and told me that we could talk about it when my mom returned. Time goes, by and she came back, and I heard the same commercial. “Calling all actors!” I told my dad again, and he took me to the open call. I was nervous and excited at the same time. At that moment, I knew that acting was what I wanted to do. Months later, we went to California for The Celebrity Experience with Adrian R’Mante. There I trained and auditioned for the very first time. Casting directors, managers and agents were all staring. I could feel tension in the room; nevertheless, I performed my monologue. In fact, if you search my name on YouTube, you can still find it.
I received callbacks from LA agents and managers who were interested in me. As you can imagine, I was stoked! As I mentioned, both my parents were in the Army, so we could not pick up and move to LA. Actually, the military moved us from Hawaii to Alabama. Within the first year, I resumed training and got my first agent, V and C Talent Agency. Things went upward from there. I starred in “Fatal Attraction;” got picked up by a larger agency; Evolution Talent Agency and starred in an Alabama Civil Rights commercial and ABC’s “What Would You Do?” I also filmed a commercial for Home Depot’s College GameDay and many more projects. The past year has been filled with opportunities, challenges, and successes. I signed with a management company, CMA Entertainment, and a PR Talent Rep, GTK PR Talent. I have worked on short films, music videos and several other projects.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My acting career has not been a smooth road. As I grow in my craft, I am learning that there is always room for improvement. Early on, it was difficult to connect with characters. Casting Directors loved my presentation and look, but I was not booking roles. I re-looked my training and made changes in some key areas. So now, I am diving deeper into learning the meaning of acting and getting in touch with the emotional side of the art.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am most known for ABC’s “What Would You Do?” but I also starred in an episode of “Fatal Attraction,” Alabama Civil Rights Trail commercial and Home Depot’s College GameDay. I am especially proud of an internationally recognized, award-winning short film, “Sacrificing the Queen.”
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Hmmm… I would have gone straight to LA, although I am not sure if that would suit my parents. LOL! Seriously, I would have started with print modeling. I think actors who start in print tend to get into character easier.
