Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Nadir Qazi, DO.
Hi Dr. Qazi, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up with a love for sculpture art. As I studied the craft, I became obsessed with creating the perfect rendition of the human body. The more I studied, the more I noticed all the things that could be wrong with human development. I delved into pathology to understand it better and along the way, I discovered medicine as a field where I could use my skills and talents as an artist and make an important impact on people’s lives at the same time. Cosmetic dermatology is a perfect fit for my skills, talents, and my love of sculpture art. It has allowed me to use my passion for art to pivot from sculpting clay to sculpting faces, necks, and bodies to remove the barriers to seeing our own natural beauty when we look in the mirror.
As someone who battled severe acne in my youth, I longed to find solutions to reduce the appearance of my acne scars. Every dermatologist and skin specialist I found turned me away, telling me the solutions they had wouldn’t work on my darker skin tones. Hot lasers were the primary course of treatment for acne scar removal, and the extreme heat tended to bleach out darker skin tones, swapping one skin problem for another. Still, I wanted a solution. So, I became the answer to my own problem. I studied all the ways to reduce acne scars and I became a specialist. Today, the lasers work better on darker skin tones, but bleaching can still occur. So, I created a proprietary pre-and post-treatment regimen to ensure each patient receives the results they desire without any undesirable aftereffects. In fact, the trauma of being turned away from so many skin care specialists has set the tone for the culture in my practice: we never turn away anyone. Instead, we innovate, create, study, and come up with solutions so that no one is ever turned away from my practice without the hope of a solution to their issues. It is my mission to be relatable to each and every patient who comes to my clinic for help and to find solutions that will get them the results they desire. Beautiful skin is important, and I’m honored to give people the confidence they seek in their appearance.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Entrepreneurialism takes tenacity. I call it sheer willpower to succeed. When I first opened my practice, I had naysayers all around me telling me I would fail. I didn’t have the deep pockets for the lasers and other technologies my competitors boasted and I didn’t have the funds for a big marketing campaign. What I had was my sheer desire to help people with the tools that I had and the talents I had perfected over the years. Word spread and my practice grew. Today, I have all the lasers and equipment and the marketing budget but those are not the key differentiators in my practice: it’s me, my team, and the way we make each patient feel when they’re in our care. Yes, we’ve struggled along the way, learning the best ways to do our social media, to grow an audience, to educate people about what we do and how we’re different. We’ve struggled to find the right partners and the right teammates, but all along, we’ve remained focused on what’s most important: quality client care. By focusing on providing the most exquisite experiences for our clients with the results they desire to see, we’ve created a practice based on referrals from patients who are happy with their results and the care they receive and that is the most rewarding part of our business overall.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We remove the barriers that prevent people from seeing their best selves, their own natural beauty when they look in the mirror. As human beings, we are brutal to ourselves when we look in the mirror. We look at our skin like it’s under a microscope, nitpicking at each flaw that only we as the owner of our body sees. But those little nuances bother us, and they keep us from feeling our best. They can wreak havoc on our self-esteem, our confidence in ourselves and the way we look and feel about ourselves and our position in this world. At Qazi Cosmetic Clinic, we listen to what each client is saying about the issues they want to fix. Body dysmorphia is a real thing, and we don’t want to contribute to problems that live in the mind. Rather, we seek to put a smile on the faces of each client we see by listening between the lines to serve the entire client so that when they leave our offices, they feel heard, cared for, treated properly, and they’re thrilled with the end results that leave them seeing nothing but the best of themselves when they look in the mirror. Sun damage can affect skin in so many ways, from wrinkles and fine lines to dry flakey skin, melasmas and dark spots, cancerous lesions and so much more. The skin is both the largest organ in the body and a bellwether of our internal health. By listening well to our clients and having real conversations about the real results each client wants, we’ve created an entire community of people who look and feel good about themselves and their skin and restoration of a youthful appearance that we’re able to bring to the faces of women and men of all ages, skin tones and skin types. We pride ourselves on finding solutions that work for everyone.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Being the middle child and only male amid four intelligent and competitive sisters, along with the support of our loving parents, I’d be remiss if I didn’t credit my family first and foremost for pushing me toward greatness in every area of my life. It was my sister born right after me who taught me the value of skilled listening. A teacher of elementary school children, she taught me how to tune out the noise and pay attention to the person speaking right in front of me. She taught me the value of listening between the lines and the value of undivided attention. That’s a skill that has become a cornerstone of our culture at Qazi Cosmetic Clinic. In addition to my family, I’d like to credit my team. My staff delved into social media and created our brand online through creativity, education and inspiration to understand cosmetic dermatology and the results each patient can expect with each treatment. And finally, I credit the greats in sculpting art, like Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni who, no matter the challenge, set out to do the best work of any work that’s ever been done. I relate to that kind of work ethic and it’s also part of our culture and part of my DNA.
