Meet Dr. Dharam Singh Deutsch of The Center For Energy Medicine in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Dharam Singh Deutsch.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
At 6 years, old I was living on a boat in Maui. Regularly at night, two spirits would come visit, I would leave my body, and the 3 of us would fly around.

At age 7, I had a lucid epiphany of what I would be doing with my life: working with energy and the mind.

Started to do healing as a child on myself as I was told to run energy to cure colds and what not. At the time, my mother was teaching a series called unlocking the treasure of your mind which consisted of meditations and self-empowerment techniques. She was one of my first energy teachers.

Throughout my life, I have been blessed with amazing Teachers and the gift of studying with, traveling with, and teaching for many of my Grandmasters. After working with a number of different Qigong systems, I became a Master under three of my Grandmasters.

Later I went back to school and received a Master’s of Science in Oriental Medicine followed by a Ph.D. in Oriental Medicine. However, my true love was Qigong. It is one of the reasons I went to Oriental Medical School because I felt that it would deepen my understanding of the Chinese Medical theory that underpins Medical Qigong.

One of the most important parts of the Center for Energy Medicine is the pharmacy where we make custom herbal formulas for each patient. I studied herbs formally with one of my herbal professors for two years after I received my Ph.D. which provided an even deeper relationship with herbs and formula writing.

Since the early 90’s, I have been practicing healing work. For a while, I was living in the mountains and would drive into the city on the weekends to treat patients. After acupuncture school, I decided to put all of my skills and focus all of my energy into one place and thus opened The Center For Energy Medicine.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think anybody has a smooth road, though definitely having a daily spiritual practice helps navigate and surpass many obstacles along the way. To do the best healing work possible, it helps to be able to focus on working with patients. However, there is a lot more that goes into running a practice, such as scheduling, shipping formulas, etc. I have been so lucky to put together an awesome team to work with. This allows us to all exercise our strengths in their respective areas so that everything runs smoothly and my full attention can be focused on healing and making peoples’ lives better.

Please tell us about The Center For Energy Medicine.
Approaching each person with a synergistic blend of Eastern and Western healing modalities that goes beyond the treatment of surface symptoms to incorporate all aspects of a patient’s fundamental well-being allows true healing to occur. I believe that true health care is not just about getting rid of and avoiding disease, but rather to have patients truly thrive with the brightest light possible shining from within. My specialties include helping patients have more energy, overcome stress and overwhelm, men’s health, women’s health, fertility, surgery prevention, resolving pain, and digestive issues.

Most proud of all of the surgeries that have been avoided, all of the patients who no longer have to take pharmaceutical medication, and resolving what were thought to be permanent diagnosis. There have been patients who come in using canes and walkers and walk out without them, that’s a good feeling! Patients who have “tried everything and could not find relief” and then we work together and they get healthy again. I enjoy working with whole families and seeing them not only get healthier, but also get along better. We also have a “don’t get sick” club, full of patients who are taught and provided with what is needed to stay healthy and avoid colds and flus.

There are so many good doctors in LA. What sets us apart from the rest is our peaceful, private location, Qigong, Energy Medicine, and herbs. Many people say that they feel a shift when they walk through the front gate and that it feels as though time slows down. People frequently comment that they don’t want to leave. For all of my patients that it is relevant, they will learn specific Qigong exercises to do at home and we provide them with supplemental material to ensure they understand the exercises. We also offer Qigong classes, open to anyone. With energy medicine, blockages can be removed restoring energy flow, old energies that do not serve the patient can be extracted, the body tonified and the life force recharged. The custom herbal formulas take into account the totality of the individual, their constitution, their presenting symptoms and underlying causes. Also, because we truly do care for each of our patients, we provide patients with a lot of support to ensure that patients are well taken care of before, during, and after each appointment.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Riding in the back of my grandfather’s pickup truck along old dirt roads.
