Meet Dr. Abha Sharma of Healthy Mama Doc in Pasadena and the Inland Empire

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Abha Sharma.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I grew up in Southern California and I knew from a young age, that I wanted to pursue a career that involved helping others. After graduating high school, I was presented with a unique opportunity to combine travel with studying medicine, when I enrolled in Manipal College of Medical Sciences in Pokhara, Nepal. After graduating, I returned back to the U.S. and completed a residency in General Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit. I love being a pediatrician – it is amazing to see children (and their families) grow from infancy to childhood and into the teen years.

After completing residency, I returned back to my home state and started practicing Outpatient General Pediatrics. It was at this point that, after years of being an overweight child and young adult, I fell into eating healthier and incorporating fitness into my life.

Fast forward to being in practice for 5 years, I got married and gave birth to my daughter about a year and a half later. As a new mother, I was struggling with breastfeeding and sought guidance from an IBCLC ( International Board Certified Lactation Consultant). When I saw how much my baby and I benefited from her expertise, I was inspired to become one myself – I became certified in April of 2016.

Becoming a parent not only pushed me to reach my goals professionally but also inspired me to start writing about my true passion – healthy eating and living. I started blogging, for both medical and parenting websites. In addition, I have collaborated with colleagues on videos covering topics such as Breastfeeding, Healthy Eating and Child Safety.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My journey to present has been smooth – no obstacles along the way. My husband encourages me to pursue my passion and reach my goals. I have also been fortunate to have supportive colleagues in the Medicine, with whom I have been able to collaborate with and write for.

Please tell us about Healthy Mama Doc.
My own website will be launching soon – Healthy Mama Doc: Healthy Eating and Living~Pediatrics~Breastfeeding Medicine. As a pediatrician, mother and healthy eating enthusiast, I provide my reader with factual information and practical tips for integrating healthy habits into a busy schedule. My goal is to have the reader walk away feeling inspired to make even one healthy change in their daily life.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
My life experiences have shaped who I am and brought me on this journey. So, if I had to start over, I wouldn’t change a thing!
