Meet Downtown Fashion Designer and Photographer: LaDonna Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to LaDonna Davis.

LaDonna, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started And She Saw Stars in 2014 after I completed my Associates in Fashion Design from FIDM in Downtown Los Angeles. I started as a blog and included topics such as my photography and fashion design. Today I’m designing and have been showcased in 2 Fashion Weeks.

Has it been a smooth road?
The struggles along the way include getting your work noticed regularly. It’s been difficult to get enough press and PR for my work to get more potential clients and customers.

When you look back, can you point to a period when you wanted to quit or a period that was really frustrating?
Lately, it’s been a real battle getting stuff out to outlets such as magazines and websites. It’s a real drag and you wonder if you are losing opportunities when you have these lags. You have to take it slow and say ‘you are doing the best you can’ because you could be sick or doing too much at one time and it can be tough not to be hard on yourself. These times I really sit and pray and talk to my angels and ask for help. The ‘machine’ that keeps you in the vibe that you have to always be on top to stay relevant is real, but it’s not the ‘real world’.

Let’s change gears – is there any advice you’d like to give?
Follow your heart. Your heart will always know what steps to take when it comes to getting noticed.

Is there something you are particularly excited about or working towards?
Finding my audience. Finding my clients. I have many people interested in my line and that’s always exciting, but I am looking to find my audience so I can get my items seen on red carpets and worn by celebrities. I want to see my line on other runways such as London Fashion Week and London Fashion Weekend (I am a big fan and used to attend as an onlooker). I can’t wait to get back into the studio….I think the Little Green Dress is up for me to design and God-willing will be on a future runway. I hope to see my designs in films and at film festivals as well as see my own store open one day. I had the chance to do a pop-up but the space wasn’t right, but I was so glad for the invite to show. Hoping for more chances like this as they are steps towards either a brick and mortar shop or even a little mobile store via a truck/van. I can’t wait to see how things turn out.
