Today we’d like to introduce you to Donna Hood.
Donna Hood found her love for dance at a very young age in Houston, Texas. Training in all styles of dance, she had a well-rounded dance foundation that would take her further than she could have ever imagined possible.
Donna began dancing professionally in 2006 when she was accepted into the popular dance television show – America’s Best Dance Crew on MTV. Shortly after filming the show, Donna decided to make the move to Los Angeles to pursue her dance career. It wasn’t until a few months later into her first year in California that she would book a job that would change the path of her dance career forever.
Donna booked a part in the touring burlesque show titled, “Strip Strip Hooray!” alongside the undisputed Queen of Burlesque, Dita Von Teese. Working closely with some of the biggest names in burlesque, Donna quickly became overwhelmed with inspiration, and decided to dive head-first into the burlesque world.
In the last few years, Donna has performed burlesque all over the world for clients like Playboy, Amazon, as well as performing regularly in multiple venues Nationwide. Donna has been producing for the past 5 years with Burlesque and Variety Show “TEASE, if you please!” at Palace Theater & Exchange LA, a live-music and interactive burlesque experience “The Scarlet Hour” at Black Rabbit Rose, and an upcoming production with the queen of burlesque Dita Von Teese “Von Follies” featured at the Hollywood Roosevelt.
Please tell us about your art.
My earliest memories are of me dancing. It’s always been something that has carried me through life, and I knew it would be after my first year as a tiny dancer. It’s my form of meditation as well. Without it, I’m out of balance. Art is supposed to make you feel something. I hope through my creations and when I perform for people, they take away happiness, peace, and inspiration.
As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
Patience and drive. You have to stop rushing situations that take time to grow, because you can’t dodge the process. You have to learn to enjoy the journey, and know that your success is entirely up to you! Your life. Your choices.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
