Meet Don Mehrabi of BHSkin, Inc.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Don Mehrabi.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I moved out to LA in 2005 from Dallas, Texas, after completing my dermatology residency at UT Southwestern Medical Center. I worked for the Cedars-Sinai Medical Group from 2005-2006, and then left to start my practice. My practice opened March 2008 in Beverly Hills, and expanded to Encino and Glendale in September 2009. Today we have 2 doctors and 2 physician assistants, and a staff over 20.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The first 3 years were difficult. I opened at the beginning of the Great Recession in one of the highest rent medical areas, Beverly Hills. I had also borrowed money to build out my office and buy equipment, so that made the road to success that much harder. I had to work at a couple other places in order to make ends meet, and faced numerous stressful times throughout the first 3 years. Managing staff, trying to grow a practice, and finding the time to coordinate my wedding, all during the recession, was very challenging.

Please tell us about BHSkin, Inc…
We practice all aspects of dermatology, including all medical, cosmetic, laser, and surgical dermatology. I would say that we excel and specialize in all these categories, but I’m the most proud of our excellent medical dermatology practice. We spend time with each patient and work diligently at addressing each issue during the office visit. We always have the patient in mind and would only do for patients what we would choose and do for ourselves. I would say our customer service and attention to details sets us apart from all the other dermatology practices. We also pride ourselves in being a technologically advanced paperless office, and having multiple ways to keep in touch with our patients – chat, patient portal, phone, and email. We even offer virtual teledermatology online consults!

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Having opened my doors at the beginning of the Great Recession, I would have wished for better timing!

Dr. Mehrabi brought my Austin roasted
skin back to normal when I moved to LA. Best dermatologist I’ll ever find anywhere! Very caring, professional and knowledgeable.
