Meet Don Kipper of Kip’s Toyland in Mid-Wilshire

Today we’d like to introduce you to Don Kipper.

Don – please kick things off for us by telling us where this story begins.
Kip’s Toyland was founded in 1945 upon my father’s return from WWII. At 71 years and counting, Kip’s is LA’s oldest toy store; now owned by Kip’s son Don and managed by Don’s daughter Lily…third generation! We are well known for focusing on classic and vintage toys; we sell nothing that plugs in. Located in the historic original Farmers Market, we have been a popular destination for generations of local families and tourists alike. We frequently hear people telling us that they came to the store with their grandparents and now bring their grandchildren to shop for the perfect toy.

Has it been a smooth road?
Kip’s has prospered by doing a common thing uncommonly well. In 2001, FAO Schwartz opened a store less than 100 yards form Kip’s. True to a David and Goliath story, FAO Schwartz is gone and Kip’s Toyland continues to provide toys and happiness to all.

So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Kip’s Toyland story. Tell us more about the business.
In addition to focusing on classic toys that encourage creative play and interaction with family and friends, Kip’s is committed to providing outstanding customer service, providing complimentary gift wrapping.

I was just there today! Bought a birthday present for my grandson, Roman, who turns 11. It’s a favorite, we can always find something good, like “Chicken Flingers”! Warm and helpful staff, too.
