Meet Diego Arancibia of DJA Sound Design in Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diego Arancibia.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Diego. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am 41 years old, born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Senior Sound Designer, Father, Husband and portable audio recorders fan. I grew up playing electric guitar and studying classical guitar at the Conservatory. At 15 years old, I found myself answering one of the most important questions of my life. My History teacher asked me what I wanted to be once high school was over. My answer, without a doubt, was: to be a Sound Designer. An answer that wasn’t very common in 1994. When I graduated school and my pizza delivery boy days were over, I started working as Boom Operator in TV shows. While I worked, I studied Music Production and Sound Technician Operator at E.M.B.A. When I was 19, I started working in Audio Post Production as a trainee.

Later I became part of the staff of one of the most important studios in Argentina. Since then, I haven’t stopped. I’ve had the honor to work on/with thousands of commercials, feature films, production companies and the best advertising agencies. Towards the end of 2014, my wife and I decided it was time for a new adventure. We moved to Miami a year later and I worked for a sound studio called INDIEHOUSE. Since 2018 we’ve been living in LA where I work as a Senior Sound Designer for TONO STUDIOS (Sound Design and Mixing company).

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I am a very lucky guy. I am a cancer survivor. After fighting this disease and getting a bone marrow transplant in 2014, life (and my wife) gave me the chance to have a son, Felipe. Overcoming that giant obstacle gave me all the energy to wake up every day and enjoy life with my wife and child.

DJA Sound Design – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a Senior Sound Designer and have 20 yearsʼ experience in the film, television and advertising industries, specializing in dialogue and sound effects. Since 1998 I have been honored to work with some of the worldʼs largest and most prestigious advertising agencies and production companies, providing first-class sound design for broadcast, web, radio, experimental, films and television. My career evolved into the feature film arena where I contributed as Sound Director, Re-Recording Mixer and Sound Editor for more than 50 film features. In 2011, I set up my own sound studio in Buenos Aires, Argentina and provided audio services for prestigious production companies and advertising agencies. And since 2015 doing what I love in the USA.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I think is a combination of a few things: wake up everyday, enjoy my family, do that I love for work and be surrounded with people that shares the passion for what we do.
