Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Bob Stock.
DJ, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started doing private parties and events in The Palm Springs area as a kid. I’m now a life long DJ with experience in Club, Radio, TV and Event work plus voice over. I also worked on the Cruise Ships for a couple of years as a DJ and Asst. Cruis Dir. before coming to the San Luis Obispo area on vacation and just never left. I met my wife, had our two amazing kids, built a fun and crazy business and life is good. I specialize in very connected events for Rad Brides and Grooms. We do over 50 weddings a year… so yeah… we’re blessed.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Mainly learning to be a solid business person as much as a good performer. We had to learn how to build our network of people and be different without fear. I also had to get away from the travel and Cruise industry towards the end, it was just not a healthy world.
Please tell us about the business.
I have a busy single op DJ company and I’m the product. We pride ourselves on getting to know our clients and figuring out their style. If I had to say what we are known for it would be the MC and host abilities we bring. I’m comfortable with being out in front and still making it about the Bride and Groom. I love to make people laugh and that comes through on the fly. I’m most proud of our consistent growth until the Crazy hit this year.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Being real and taking the time to really connect. I do my homework and I show up ready to make it happen without excuses.
