Meet Diana Rein

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Rein.

Diana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I see myself as officially starting my music career with the release of my second album, Long Road, in May of 2016, Before that, although I was doing music and had released my first album, I didn’t really marry the business side of music with my creative side yet. But as far as creating and being enamored with beautiful sounds… that started when I was very little. I would dance and sing to music all day long.

My father was a Professor of Music in Romania, and my Aunt was a famous singer in Romania. So I definitely get my musical gifts from my Father’s side of the family. I was always involved with the creative arts whether it be music or theatre when I was growing up. I remember taking piano lessons when I was about nine years old and wishing that I was playing guitar instead. But it took many years for that first interaction with the guitar to happen. And my affair with the guitar kept getting interrupted until I had my son in 2012.

When he was a year old, I said to myself “this is it. I am giving my guitar the attention it deserves because I want to play it for the rest of my life”. After that aha moment I threw myself into an obsession with learning how to play, and it continues to this day. I love writing new songs and learning by figuring out where I am at right now and what I need to learn to level up. I absolutely love the learning road of the guitar. It truly is never ending, and it keeps me hanging on. I will never get bored learning new skills on this instrument.

I fully produced my last album Long Road on my own and soon my third album of fifteen original songs called “Queen of My Castle” will be released through Gulf Coast Records. It was Produced by Michael Leasure who has been the drummer for Walter Trout for eleven years now. We had a fantastic time working on the songs and recording them. I am very excited for everyone to hear them.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Having your career be your passion is truly a blessing. But the biggest challenges come when you have to juggle so many hats as a musician nowadays. We have the power to create music so easily now in our homes. But the amount of work that it takes to get that music heard and to rise above all of the noise on social media is a constant game of guessing and chance.

You just have to be aware of all of the new technologies and new avenues of getting your music heard. You have to be able to figure out how to manage your time to be the most effective. As a musician the different hats you have to wear every day are songwriting, practicing, rehearsing, vocalizing/warming up, posting covers, new projects, live vids on social channels, recording, booking gigs, administering all of the paperwork and backend online forms for copyright, distribution, etc.

I did that for many years on my own. But now I am very thrilled, excited and grateful that I just signed with Gulf Coast Records. I feel very grateful that I have found such a fantastic label. It makes a big difference when you have a great team. But the only way to get there is if you work hard and are devoted to your career so that you can prove your worth.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I am a singer/songwriter/guitarist. I love the Blues and Blues Rock and the music that I write is definitely geared towards that genre of music. I play my music live as a trio with drums, bass and myself on guitar and vocals.

I am most proud of my steady growth and that I have just kept my focus and made steps every day towards my goals. I am also the mother of a 6-year-old boy, so the fact that I can be a great example for him to do what you love in life is my biggest success. I want him to know that he can do the same.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Connecting with the one thing in life that you love to do most and nurturing that against all odds and staying the course. Not letting anyone or anything get in the way of realizing your vision and dreams.
