Today we’d like to introduce you to Devan Dmarcus.
Devan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I would consider myself to be a creative soul. I recently relocated to Los Angeles from Atlanta after developing for nearly a decade as a multi-faceted artist, entrepreneur, social activist and public speaker. The majority of my success can be attributed to my life-experiences and the countless number of people who have poured into me over the 31 years journey. Among the most notable are my grandparents, parents, former teachers, athletic coaches, childhood friends, and key mentors. My life has happened in stages, however, regardless of the era, I would say that I’m here because of perseverance, determination and a bit of stubbornness when it comes to doing what’s in my heart. I’ve always been the type of person to pursue only that which I’m extremely passionate about. Very few things move me to the point of action, therefore, when I’ve attempted something that I felt deeply about it has proven to ultimately steer me in the right direction. That’s how I ended up in Los Angeles and that’s how I came up with the idea for my latest venture entitled THE HEART WERK™.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. And to be honest, I wouldn’t expect it to be. Anything that you’re putting effort into will eventually present challenges and possibilities for growth. Throughout my experiences, I can say that the number one struggle has been finding a delicate balance within the key areas of my life. Those areas being what I like to consider the 5 Pillars of Wellness.
1.) Mental Health
2.) Emotional Health
3.) Physical Health
4.) Financial Health
5.) Spiritual Health
Please tell us about The Heart Werk.
I would like to think of THE HEART WERK™ as an avenue for people to begin the journey towards becoming the best versions of themselves. The primary aim of the platform is to serve as a resource for people to achieve overall wellness so that they may live life more abundantly and on their own terms. The platform takes a unique approach to fitness by merging key aspects of the five pillars of wellness into a consumable & enjoyable class/group training format. Traditionally, the five pillars that I speak of have been separated into categories, although they’re inextricably connected. For example, most people think of fitness as a task that requires them to go to the gym and physically work out but fail to consider their mental health regiment, and moreover, very rarely consider how their financial health impacts both their emotional health and spiritual health. They all go hand and hand. Because of this, it is my belief that people can be trained in a way that helps them to create balance and synergy amongst these ever-present factors. I’m proud to say that we are attempting to create a model that achieves just that, and perhaps that is what sets us apart.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Sure, several people have helped me along the way. I’ve learned from many teachers, coaches, family members, mentors and even complete strangers. You can learn a lot from the wise and even more from a fool!
