Today we’d like to introduce you to Desi Derio.
Desi, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a singer, songwriter, dancer, actor, and poet. I was raised in Akron, OH. Where I discovered my love for music and the arts. I released my first album on my own in 2014. It was an album called “Limitless” on that project I displayed my musical capacity at that time with experimenting with different sounds considering my environment. I then moved to Las Vegas, NV in the midst of working on a second project. There I met my now manager and we began a new journey in music. I released a single in 2017 called “Still” and then we started doing business with some music heads in California traveling back and forth from Vegas to California for nearly a year. I was then signed to an independent label in October of 2018.
I moved to North Hollywood, CA in July of 2019. Music had been slowing down due to business protocols so I began to train as a dancer and working on my poetry book. I also began working as a background actor and doing audition reads. My poetry book was completed in January of 2020, not yet published/Released it is titled “Human”. I also was blessed to be signed to one of the top dance agencies in the world McDonald/Selznick Associates (MSA) in January of 2020 (after I auditioned for the first time and that blew my mind!) As of now, I am steadily creating, training, and advancing myself as a brand and most of all as a person.
Has it been a smooth road?
I don’t think for any artist pursuing these drama (dreams not drama) it’s a smooth road if you’ve had to start from the bottom. I’ve had/have many struggles financially, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically. Moving to Cali with no job put me in debt, lost my car, going job to job trying to land something that was substantial but wouldn’t pull me away from my purpose. As an artist, we can sometimes become insecure, have self-doubt, partake in self-sabotage, especially when you’re not around the right people. Physically I experienced a vocal injury that I am still recovering from but I am getting better. And as any journey in life it’s A test of the spirit and faith.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
(I am continually creating until I figure things out with my label if the project will be released or not). I am an entertainer or at least thats what I aspire to be one of the greatest! And I don’t care if I only get one great album and one great world tour it will be one of the best if I had the chance! I am most proud of my ability to keep going despite obstacles, my strength! Me being me sets me apart from others. My mind, my words, my delivery. I’m kind of a one stop shop. And I am working to get things on track to better myself to become a great one stop shop.(So I am currently working on me, to answer the question, all around!)
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The entertainment industry is always shifting and changing! I just want to make sure that I accomplish my goals, be successful, always find love and happiness in what I’m doing and most of all be impactful.
