Today we’d like to introduce you to Deshay Jones.
Deshay, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a tattoo artist out of Enigma Tattoo Beverly Hills. I’ve been tattooing for nine years now and I’ve literally started from crumbs. A self-taught artist fully. I was just drawing designs up for different friends who would go get them tattooed. I thought to myself, tattooing couldn’t be that hard since I already knew how to draw. I got tattooed a few times, watched the process… and eventually got my own starter kit and the rest is history. One small idea led me to be a full tattoo artist nine years later.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely wasn’t a smooth road. A lot of shops didn’t openly be willing to teach another person how to tattoo. So, I had to teach myself and work with limited resources to the industry. I worked through and learned from my mistakes. Always asked other artist id meet questions. Just reaching for any inch that would make me a better artist.
Enigma Tattoo – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I work for Enigma Tattoo. Which is a luxury tattoo shop for high-end clientele. I’m a tattoo artist and I pretty much specialize in bringing a person vision they have in there mind and translate that best to a design of there liking. I’m known for crispy lines and overall design application. I’m most proud of working with the group of artist I work with and growing as a group in this wild industry. What I’d say sets me apart from others is my personality and style. Not many urban cultured tattoo artist who can compete with the best in the game. I feel I am one of them that can.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Proudest moment so far I’d have to say, would be the fact I am becoming more known across the stated and globally. Being able to put myself in a position to live a life I always wanted is what makes me proud. The fact I stayed focused and devoted and never gave up on the dream.
