Meet Derek Ringold of Sweat Garage in West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Derek Ringold.

Derek, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been active all my life. Gymnastics, basketball, and dancer at Joffrey Ballet in NYC. I started personal training in 2009 and haven’t stopped. I’ve trained at SkySport, The Gym on Nemo, & teach HIIT (High-Intensity-Interval-Training) at the one and only Sweat Garage. I’ve been there for over four years now. It’s the best HIIT studio in Los Angeles. Hands down,

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My first time on the mic teaching group fitness at Sweat Garage was terrifying. Full class, nerves, lots going on. It was a bit overwhelming. Then after a few notes from the owner, Christopher Slevin, everything clicked in. Knowing the Workouts of the Day (WOD), creating challenging treadmill runs, and commanding the class. Even today I’m still learning new things on how to make my class more effective. I never want to get complacent because then clients plateau on their progress.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Sweat Garage – what should we know?
Sweat Garage is High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) in a fun, positive, motivating class. The one hour workout incorporates treadmill running and functional movements using dumbbells, kettle bells, resistance bands, jump ropes, and slam balls.

SweatGarage is known for being the “Best Workout in LA”. Our workouts are organized and change daily to target different muscle groups throughout the week. Our treadmill running is challenging but effective. We run at all speeds (jog, run, & sprint), all inclines, distance runs, backwards jogs, and side-hops.

This studio not only has the most challenging, & most positive workout; but the trainers, staff, and clients are truly what makes Sweat Garage special. All fitness levels are welcome with no judgment. We will work with any injuries and handicaps. We have created a wonderful fitness community full of fantastic people who cheer each other on and form lasting friendships.

From our reviews, it sounds like we definitely are the most challenging but also fun! No attitude, no judgment. Organized and tough workouts. Positive environment and lots of fitness goals reached.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Professionalism. I’ve had a strong work ethic from being in sports and dance since I was little. If you love what you do, you do the work. Work hard. Do the homework. Show up on time. Learn. Evolve. Respect your co-workers and clients. That’s what keeps people coming back.
