Meet Denton Adams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Denton Adams.

Hi Denton, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Originally from Washington, DC, creative writing has been the foundation of my career since a very young age. Within four decades on this earth, I have walked in my God-given calling to produce wholesome, inspirational, and meaningful content. From gaining the necessary education and receiving a BFA in Filmmaking from the University NC School of the Arts – School of Filmmaking (2005) and an MFA in Creative Writing for the Entertainment Industry from Full Sail University (2015) to professionally independent filmmaking for over 17 years, I’ve only accomplished so much solely by the grace of God. Without Him, I wouldn’t be where I am.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
With anything, especially following a dream, trials, and tribulations will always come. I’ve continued to navigate this industry and learn valuable lessons with simple humanity. Of course, the struggle is real when you don’t have monetary funds and hefty budgets to produce films, but many have pioneered the way and made their films, and so have I. Most of the challenges I’ve faced have been egos and personality differences. Still, envy, disrespect, and the like have not hindered me from continuing to pursue my passion for storytelling. As the President of Heartfelt Pictures, I aim to tell stories for the heart from the heart. And in life, love is what we all need, and through my everyday life and creativity, there is nothing I won’t and can’t accomplish.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a creative and burgeoning filmmaker, I specialize in screenwriting, directing, and producing. I guess you could call me a Jack of All Trades. I love directing talent and creating worlds and relatable characters and themes. Because of the many gifts God has given me, I can do many things that ultimately aren’t for my gain but to support others’ dreams and beliefs in themselves. I believe my attention to detail and focus while encouraging others along the way to be the best creatives themselves is what sets me apart from others. While most in the entertainment industry are about self, I am a true collaborator and believe in togetherness which that belief and ideology these days is seldomly shared. Very recently, I would say, most know me as the creator of an anthology feature film entitled 00:08:46 (pronounced Eight-Forty-Six), which was a response to the horrible murders of Ahmad Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd in 2020. I brought four Black Kings and Queens to be a part of this project, and I know it has impacted many who have seen it. Indeed, I could have done the film as a sole director, but because this was bigger than me, I decided to protest through art with other amazing creatives. Out of all the projects I’ve produced, I am most proud of this one. With eight writers and directors, my production company produced it during the worldwide pandemic; the insurmountable challenges we faced were steppingstones that ultimately made such an adventure unforgettable.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Beautiful woman in the medical field and a father to two young men, one in community college and the other in his first year of high school. As we follow our dreams and aspirations, our faith in God helps us navigate every adversity and obstacle. As a Black family, we stand strong to pursue our endeavors and support each other.

Last but not least, I am a published author and debuted my first non-fiction testimonial entitled: “From A Sunday Keeper to a Sabbath Believer: Flee from Babylon,” (available on Amazon) inspiring several readers and their faith walk. I’m finishing my second book, entitled The Faith Walk, which will be released in 2023.
