Meet Denise Madrigal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise Madrigal.

Denise Madrigal

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As cliché as it sounds, my love for makeup and hair artistry started when I was young. When my mom would go to the salon, I’d beg to go with her just so I can watch, I must’ve been seven or eight years old. Fast forward to high school, I was the go-to hair and makeup chick for all school dances, and it was in my junior year of high school that I dedicated time to styling wigs and doing makeup for the plays at school. I fell in love and realized I wanted to make a career out of it. It took a lot of convincing for my immigrant parents but as long as I excelled in my program it wouldn’t be an issue. I graduated Cosmetology at Fullerton College and was licensed by the state a month later. I was hired at my first job ever two months later in January 2015 but as the front desk girl at an elite celebrity salon in West Hollywood. I was driven and wanted to show my parents I wasn’t wasting my time. A few months later I was one of the top stylists and shortly after I started booking photoshoots, e-comm, commercials, tv segments and then celebrity clients. By the time I was 21, I booked my first national Tour with a well-known actress and singer, Olivia Holt. It all picked up from there and I can say I’m honored to be able to call Olivia Holt, Hilary Duff, Lea Michele, Julianne Hough, Vanessa Hudgens and Nikki Rodriguez my clients!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part, it’s been so smooth. I was so lucky to be put in that position right after my training. It’s really all about connections, your personality, and integrity at the end of the day!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in beauty makeup and hairstyling. Most artists in the industry have a very respectable style when it comes to makeup. I’d say mine is soft glam. Meaning you still look like yourself but just an enhanced more sexy version of yourself. Clients tend to book me because of my style of makeup and hairstyling. I’d say I’m most proud of all the love and joy I put into my work. Just like a chef would pour every ounce of love into their cooking, I do the same with my work. And I think that’s enough to set me apart from others.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’m fully self-taught in makeup! I looked into Makeup Academies right after Cosmetology school but found I’d be in so much debt after the fact. I was already a natural at it, so I figured I’d practice as much as I could. Took free clients, made up my sisters, anything to get me going!
