Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise James.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As a young child, my father introduced me to photography, he was a hobbyist photographer. At the age of 9-10, I won my first camera, a polaroid. My love of photography started there. However, when I was 11 my father passed away and I lost my love for all things photography related. More than ten years had passed before I would actually pick up a camera again. One year for my birthday/Christmas gift (my birthday is six days before) I received a professional camera from my father in law who happened to share the same birthdate as my father. Eleven months later, I did my first maternity session and launched my business.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road, but the challenges make you grow and learn so you can become better at what you do. Some of the struggles included trying to please people, and other little bumps here and there. However, it’s helped me to become stronger at what I have a passion for.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with DJ’s Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I love taking photos of everything. My absolute favorite genre is Maternity, Portraits, and Children. But I have done a variety of different photo sessions, including Weddings, Birthday Parties, Bar/t Mitzvahs, Families, Themed shoots, Boudoir, etc. I am most proud of getting to create what my client wants from our session together, and if I don’t get it right the first time I try again.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the diversity of our city. You can drive 30 minutes to the beach, or mountains, the culture is amazing. I am a California native and can’t picture myself living anywhere else. There’s not a whole lot that I don’t like about our city. I have found some really amazing picturesque spots and created some magical photos for my clients.
