Meet Denise Hernandez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise Hernandez.

Hi Denise, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Before I started Shop Jitana I was a buyer for a few fashion retailers and I knew it was always my passion. I was living in Australia for a buying job when I first visited Bali and fell in love with the culture, way of life, and decor. It is here where I met some of the most intriguing artisans who helped me create my own collection of home goods. I would buying items to decorate my room and all my friends would ask me where I got the items from and that inspired me to start my own home decor company, Shop Jitana.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I think most small businesses are bound to experience struggles. But it’s crucial to not give up, to keep going. Something that has been a bit more difficult is figuring out the logistics and importing internationally. Numbers are crucial when it comes to owning a business. A current struggle is dealing with Covid since Jitana consists of ethically sourced products from around the world and unfortunately, I’m not able to travel like I used to. Thus, I was pushed to start sourcing from a new country which was Mexico, and fortunately, it turned out to be such an incredibly buying journey for Shop Jitana.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Jitana’s specializes in unique, ahead of the trend home decor with products that will bring peace and tranquility to people’s homes. Jitana is ethically sourced, everything is handmade, and I love working closely with artisans from around the world to create beautiful pieces. We are very proud to be a woman-owned and led company!

What are your plans for the future?
We want to keep focusing on home decor that will bring peace and comfort to people’s homes since that’s where most of us will be spending a lot of time. We would also love to incorporate bigger furniture pieces eventually. Of course, I plan to continue sourcing from new countries and bring one of a kind items to Shop Jitana!
