Today we’d like to introduce you to Deja Kreutzberg.
Deja, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I guess I should start with a fun fact. I am an only child. You may ask, why is this relevant, but it is! Due to being an only child, I had to find many creative ways to keep myself entertained…and this my friends, is where I picked up the camera.
It didn’t matter if it was a video camera or a point and shoot, I was always involved with one. Creating infomercials and talk shows in my room, or plastering my walls with photos of anything and everything, this was how I spent most of my childhood. Thankfully, it turned into a very wonderful career!
From the ages of 14-28, I appeared in front of the camera as an actress and model. It was an amazing experience, which has made me a better photographer. I take all the knowledge I have from being in front of the camera, paired with the expertise behind the camera, then mix in a whole lotta fun and you have a photography session with Deja’s View Photography!
Has it been a smooth road?
Knowing what I wanted to do with my life was a smooth and easy decision, but nothing worthwhile is ever easy to get to. Struggles are what make the journey fun and rewarding.
As a professional photographer, you are not only competing with millions of other photographers, but with new technology and yourself! When you get into the business, it is usually because you are following a passion. It isn’t until you get deep into the thick of creating your business that realizes that 20% of your job is actually taking pictures! Marketing, Blogging, Editing, Training, Events, Time Management, Client Management…these are what a Photography business really compromises of.
Once you get the hang of all these things, then you need to find a way to make other people understand why you are a valuable option and why professional photography is worth the investment. Sure cell phone cameras are getting better and better, but Mother’s forget that unless they are inserting themselves into the pictures, they have years of memories where they are absent.
A photography session with me allows a mom to be present with her family, have those beautiful moments when her son kisses her face, or her daughter whispers in her ear….captured for her to cherish forever. Those are moments that a cell phone just can’t capture. It is a full 90 minutes of family time, and that is priceless.

My name is actually Deja. My mother fell in love with the name when she was a teenager and vowed to name her daughter that one day. I have always loved my unique name, but never loved the redundant joke that came with it. “I feel like I already know you, it must be Deja Vu!”
Instead of that joke haunting me for years, I turned it into my photography business’s name! Deja’s View Photography was born three years ago in Santa Monica, CA and has been serving clients in Southern California ever since.
I am a natural light photographer that specializes in newborn and family photography. My style is vibrant, contemporary and authentic. I strive to create one of a kind sessions to all of my clients, leaving them with memories that they can cherish forever.
My biggest accomplishment since opening Deja’s View, is that almost all of my business is through referrals, which means my clients love my sessions as much as I love doing them. It doesn’t get any more rewarding than that!
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think that Los Angeles is a great city for a business like mine and for other photographers.
It is filled with culture and the list of shooting locations goes on forever! If your client is looking for a beach location, there are a million to choose from!
Urban is a piece of cake if you shoot downtown or even at an amazing studio that rents to photographers by the hour called FD Studio.
If your client was from the east coast and is craving tree’s and nature, Malibu is the place to go for that! It is a photographers dream, everything is at your fingertips!
