Today we’d like to introduce you to Dee Coupe.
Hi Dee, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
All my family is from Jacksonville, FL. My father was raised in the Church and he and his Brothers and Sisters were the Church band and the Choir. They were all self-taught. So naturally, I picked up the harmonica and piano when I was a kid. Unfortunately, when my parents divorced, Me, my Mom, Brother and Sister moved to California to be closer to my Mom’s family. That separation caused me to not be able to practice the piano and the harmonica. So without practice, I no longer was able to play those instruments, I simply forgot how to play. Music always kept watch over me, growing up in these LA Streets. Kept me out of trouble. Though I stopped playing an instrument, I began to develop my voice as an instrument. This lead to me performing all through High School and that lead to me developing my songwriting skills, which lead to me becoming who I am today. A Singer/Songwriter.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve always struggled with networking and meeting the right folks that could help my career. Once I decided to be independent musically, I was able to develop and produce content that I control, which makes me a smarter businessman than most.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a Singer/Songwriter, I specialize in songs for Film and TV. I’m most proud of my work with one of my childhood heroes Jon Jon from the Multi-Platinum selling R&B Group, “Troop”. My GOD given talent is the gift of Melody, I can hear a melody without even trying. Which a great skillset for songwriting.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t believe in luck, I believe in hard work pays off. And if you want to win, you have to play the game.
