Meet Deanna Ductoc of Los Angelitos Bakery in Huntington Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deanna Ductoc.

Father and son duo, Ángel Joaquín Ductoc and Ángel Daniel Ductoc Sr., worked together to open up their own family business in 1992. After coming to the United States from Cuba in 1971, they worked hard every day to create a better future for their families. Passion, hard work, sacrifices, and dedication continues to run through this generational family-owned for almost three decades! Now owned by the children of Angel Sr., Angel Daniel Ductoc Jr., Deanna Ductoc, Andrew Ductoc, and Daryanna Ductoc, are looking forward to continuing to provide affordable pan dulce, pastries, market items, and custom cakes for the community and the surrounding cities all over Los Angeles! Family is the heart of this business, and are proud to be Latino/a owned! Now we are well known for helping our community! We started by providing free bread daily to children while they remain out of school during the pandemic, then fundraised to provide a student in need with a free laptop and MicrosoftOffice bundle, and recently we raised money to donate to the National Breast Cancer Foundation in October.

Has it been a smooth road?
Running a small business is never a smooth process. We have hit some obstacles and struggles within the 28 years of being in business. Some of which were very recent, this year to be exact. We were hit with a pandemic that affected many, if not all, small businesses all over the world. We were able to remain open due to serving small market items considered as essential, such as milk, eggs, water, and food. We remained hopeful, even though we were afraid of what could happen next. Fortunately, we have been maintaining and coming up with innovative ways to remain in business such as new pastry ideas that have a COVID-related theme (i.e., Toilet Paper Cake) that we sold almost 100 of in a matter of 4 months! We also encountered some struggles when the riots began and curfews were in place for the County of Los Angeles. Closing early during a pandemic affected us negatively. We had to cut hours, stop sales, and stay hopeful that our business would not be affected physically. Even with all the push back just this year alone, we learned how to create new normals to maintain business and continue serving our community!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I believe what sets us apart from other Bakeries is our passion. Every person that is a part of our Los Angelitos Bakery has the passion and desire to give the best customer service, product, or experience to our customers. Our bakers make the pan dulce with traditional flavors and love to it – many of which have been bakers for over ten years! Our cake decorators work hard, loving what they do, to bring a smile on the customer’s face when they pick up their custom cake and pastries for their special occasion. Our cashiers welcome each customer with a warm smile (under their masks) and welcoming energies whenever a customer enters the bakery and provides the best customer care because they love taking care of each person that walks in. Family is the heart of our bakery and we take pride in hiring employees that will fit our family and represent what we stand for!

We are known for our Kobe Conchas, where all profits were donated to the MambaOnThreeFund in honor of Kobe Bryant and the others who lost their lives in January 2020. We initially began this as a way to commemorate Kobe and his commitment to Los Angeles, but once word spread we decided to then donate any profits from the conchas sold that week.

I am proud that no matter how many struggles we may be facing if we are able to give back and serve our community in any way, we do. We have found countless ways to get the community together to help and support each other, and that in itself is an honor to be a part of. We lead the way for our community and use our business as a platform of inspiration showing others that we are always there for our community in any way that we can be.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I believe that Huntington Park is a great city to have a business in. One thing to note is that it is a community that is majorly populated by Hispanics (Mexican) and are very traditional. You will rarely see much of gentrification in our city, which I believe they take a lot of pride in. We make it important to maintain our roots of our culture and maintain traditions. We have made an effort to create some modern changes but never changing the roots of what created our family business. We take pride in giving people nostalgia when they walk in, reminding them of when they were younger and would visit the bakery with their grandparents or parents. We love being the corner bakery that everyone knows about and loves to come by knowing we will have their favorite treats they fell in love with 15 years ago!
