Meet David Truog of Mimi’s Jewelry in Fountain Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Truog.

David, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
During the fall of Vietnam, my parents converted everything they had into diamonds in order to sell and start a new life in America. During one of our failed escapes, we were sent to jail – mom and I were released early, before we left, my dad gave me a cigar tube and told me to keep it close and not to let anyone know. Only when we came to the states, my dad shared with me that that cigar tube of diamonds allowed us to start our future in the America.

Fast forward to 1995, Mimi’s Jewelry was born in Fountain Valley. My mom started the business, but it was stagnant and we weren’t making head ways. So I decided after join forces and become partners. I finished my degree in Finance and Economics and traveled the world to learn the business from the ground up.

Has it been a smooth road?
For the most part, like every small business it has had its up and downs. However, our biggest challenge came in October 10, of 2015. We were tragically burglarized, it was devastating in all sense of the word…however born from tragedy we were able to realize our biggest gift, the community. Our community was so supportive in every way possible.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are custom jewelers. We create one of a kind pieces, if you can dream it we can make it. We are a very vertical company, 99% of our work happens in house. What sets us apart from others? We are very personal, we are with you at every step of the manufacturing process.

We are most proud of our community and the relationships we have built throughout the years.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Fountain Valley is a very unique city, we house several large corporations like Hyundai, Yakult, Kingston, and others – but still has a very small town feel to it. We have so many community events like concerts and movies in the park, Summerfest, Easter Egg Hunts and so much more.

I would highly recommend Fountain Valley to anyone starting out.
